Weekly Update – 7th August 2011

WELCOME whether you are new to St Mark’s or a regular.  Thank you for being here and sharing in this act of worship.

COMMENTS BOX for feedback on the services and other aspects of church life can be found at the back of church.  Why not suggest a hymn!

ELECTRONIC VERSION of Sunday’s liturgy can be emailed to you in advance.  Please contact Anne in the office.

TODAY’S VOLUNTARIES The closing voluntary today comes from Mozart’s opera ‘The Marriage of Figaro’, and has been selected to honour Roz and Andy, and Janet and Nicky and their celebrations this weekend.

WE ARE COLLECTING in support of two home churches of members of St Mark’s.  The Anglican Church of St Thomas, Anomabu, southern Ghana, where Grace Abban-Ampiah used to be a youth coordinator, is in need of a new communion chalice.  The Anglican Church of St Peter in Zimbabwe, where Chris and Elizabeth Nyabezi worship, having been disenfranchised and excommunicated by a pro-Mugabe Bishop, is in need of communion vessels and vestments.  Please place your donations in the container at the back of church.  Cheques should be made payable to ‘St Mark’s PCC’.  And don’t forget to Gift Aid.  Thank you!

MARATHON SUPPORT In January, I’m going to volunteer at a clinic in Malawi for 6 months. To raise money for the clinic, I’m running the Great North Run in September  (a half marathon) with my brother and sister. This is a massive challenge for someone as unfit and lazy as me! If you’d like to sponsor us or learn more about the clinic please go to http://www.mycharity.ie/event/gallivan/.  Many thanks, Ceri Gallivan.

BROOMHALL NEWS The August issue is now available and on the card stall.

SOLAR PANEL FUNDING APPEAL Following a positive response from Church members, the PCC has agreed to launch an appeal for unconditional donations towards the cost of installing solar panels on the church roof. The target to raise is £40,000 and today individually addressed Appeal letters are available for Church members including a pledge form. Pledges of donations are invited to be made as soon as possible and at the latest by Sunday 16 October 2011.  Please collect your letter and think carefully and prayerfully about supporting this exciting and innovative proposal for the Church to reduce its carbon footprint.  Thank you.

SERVERS & VERGERS We are looking for volunteers to join the existing teams.  If you like to serve in the sanctuary or help set up for the service at the 10 o’clock Eucharist, please have a word with Jon Hughes or a member of the clergy.  Open to young and old, women and men.  Many thanks.
