In association with St Mark’s Centre for Radical Christianity
St Mark’s Centre for Radical Christianity is delighted to welcome back to the UK Marcus Borg, author of the bestselling ‘The God We Never Knew’, ‘The Heart of Christianity’, ‘Gospel of Mark: Conversations with Scripture’ and many other publications. He has been described by The New York Times as “a leading figure in his generation of Jesus scholars.”
Marcus Borg is Canon Theologian at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in Portland, OR. Internationally known in both academic and church circles as a biblical and Jesus scholar, he was Hundere Chair of Religion and Culture in the Philosophy Department at Oregon State University until his retirement in 2007.
His latest book ‘Putting Away Childish Things’ is a fictional novel, published last year, and has been described as being able to “draw us all to a place of humble hospitality where grace abounds.” His twentieth book, Speaking Christian, will be published in March, 2011.
Jesus and Christianity have often been domesticated by Christian theology and cultural accommodation. The weekend seeks to reclaim the radical significance of Jesus from its cultural captivity by exploring a historical and metaphorical approach to seeing Jesus, God, and Christianity.
