CALLING ALL MUSICIANS – With Wendy’s imminent departure, we urgently need competent musicians willing to play and accompany singing during Night Service on an occasional basis.  Please contact Wendy or a member of clergy asap.  Thank you!

BROOMHILL FESTIVAL 2011 donated £10,000 to the designated charities: Safe @ Last, Sheffield Women’s Refuge, Samantha Dickson Brain Tumour Trust and Twin & Twin Trading Ltd.  Well done everyone!


Susanna and Jonathan’s Wedding is on Friday 2nd September at 1pm. We would love it if you could come to the marriage service and celebrate our wedding with us. Please stay for tea and cake afterwards as well.


WENDY’S FINAL SUNDAY with us before returning to her legal studies will be 11 September.  There will be a parish ‘bring & share’ lunch in her honour on that day and as well an opportunity to contribute to a ‘thank you’ gift on the previous two Sundays.

JOHN BELL of the Iona Community will lead a day here at St Mark’s on Saturday 1 October 2011, 10.00 am – 4.00 pm – ‘In Spirit and Truth: Belief, Worship and Discipleship.’  Flyers available.  Book now!

SOLAR PANEL FUNDING APPEAL Following a positive response from Church members, PCC has agreed to launch an appeal for unconditional donations towards the cost of installing solar panels on the church roof. The target to raise is £40,000 and today individually addressed Appeal letters are available for Church members including a pledge form. Pledges of donations are invited to be made – Sunday 16 October 2011 at the latest, please.  Please collect your letter and think carefully and prayerfully about supporting this exciting and innovative proposal for the Church to reduce its carbon footprint.  Thank you.

SERVERS & VERGERS We are looking for volunteers to join the existing teams.  If you would like to serve in the sanctuary or help set up for the service at the 10 o’clock Eucharist, please have a word with Jon Hughes or a member of the clergy.  Open to young and old, women and men.  Many thanks.

DISABILITY AND THE CUTS: the effect of public spending cuts on disabled people. A public meeting organised by Church Action on Poverty in Sheffield and Sheffield Centre for Independent Living (SCIL). Thursday 29 September, 7-9pm, Quakers Meeting House.  All welcome.

10,000 CLIMATE JOBS for Sheffield. Please sign the petition to trigger a debate in full council on the need to create these jobs in Sheffield.  We need 5000 signatures. Forms at the back of church by the Chapel.

CHILDREN’S GROUPS OVER THE SUMMER As usual, the children’s groups are taking a break over the summer (thank you to Crèche for keeping going!).  We’re asking for two volunteers each week to look after the older children – whatever you feel you can resource.  Please sign up today.

PRESERVES  AT HARVEST Once again we will be selling jams, chutneys and bottled fruit on Harvest Festival Sunday in support of Christian Aid. Please, wonderful jam makers, can you get busy so we have lots to sell. Many thanks. International Committee.

DEC APPEAL for East Africa raised £2661 (including Gift Aid).  Thank you for your generosity. 

CHRISTIAN AID WEEK 2011 The house to house collection raised a fantastic total of £2,110. A big ‘thank you’ to all the collectors for your time, support and perseverance – every penny you collect really does count! Please find individual letters of thanks in the pigeon holes at the back of church.   Helen Hillman and Alison Tolson.


SOUP RUN VOLUNTEERS We are looking for some more volunteers to help with the Soup Run.  It is just once a month, as part of a good team. More information from Gary, or Jonathan Earle on 07751 788669 or earlejonathan@rocketmail.com. More men’s socks and coats gratefully accepted, too.
