CARDS, COFFEE & CAKE Saturday 19th May, 10am – 12noon,1 High Wray Close, Millhouses Lane.  Coffee time is here again for the Goodwill Children’s Homes in South India.  Last year we raised over £1000 – can we do it again?!

ROUNDHEADS AND CAVALIERS TOGETHER! Royalist or Republican, the Jubilee Bank Holiday is definitely an excuse for a party. Bring your picnics and your friends and we’ll all eat together on the Green on 3rd June, after the 10am service. Tables, chairs and soft drinks provided, plus children’s activities. Then we are all invited to continue the festivities in Broomhall on 4th June. More details on the posters in the entrance hall.

GARDEN PARTY on 16 June at 2.00pm –  this year it helps to kick off the Broomhill Festival!  We need your help; volunteers on the day and donations of 2nd hand books and quality gifts.  This is an event for all the family with music, games, food & drink and market stalls.  Please speak to Caroline F., Peter R., or Sue H. for more information.

IDAHO 2012 The International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia (IDAHO) aims to raise awareness of the impact of prejudice and discrimination on the health and well-being of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people.  To mark this event, the Centre for HIV and Sexual Health and Sheffield City Council are arranging a ‘One-minute NOISE’ on Thursday 17 May – to proclaim that homophobia and transphobia are unacceptable and have no place in our society. Key speakers.  Peace Gardens at 5.15 pm; 1-minute noise at 6.00 pm.

SHEFFIELD PRIDE Saturday 2 June, 12-7 Endcliffe Park.  We have the opportunity to show a Christian presence at Sheffield’s largest festival for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender communities. Last year St Andrew’s Psalter Lane invited St Mark’s to help run a stall.  Can you help?  It’s guaranteed to be fun!  Please see Sue asap.

VAT Abolition of VAT exemption on listed buildings (cf the Budget), will have a serious impact on churches. Please register your disagreement by signing the E- petition: epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/32229.  It will be even better if you could write a letter  to your local MP with a copy to George Osborne – there is an excellent draft letter at the back of church. You can download a copy from St Mark’s website. The letter has a place for examples. In Sheffield, St Peter’s Greenhill may well be thwarted in its plans to install a more efficient boiler, which would make a useful contribution to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, as a consequence of this change.
