Weekly Update – 6th January 2013

PLEDGES 2013 UPDATE – 54 responses to our Pledge Appeal have been received so far promising increased giving of £9,000 (including recovered tax) towards the target of £13,000 additional given income for 2013.  The responses to date include 7 new pledges, 32 increases, 14 no changes and 1 decrease.  This is very encouraging and grateful thanks to all who have responded so far.  However, further increases are still needed if we are to maintain the work and service of this Church at current levels.   Consequently, if you have yet to respond, please think prayerfully and carefully about your response and return your pledge form as soon as possible. We need every church member to return a pledge form so that we can be sure of the level of expected income for this year.  Packs have now been mailed out.  If you haven’t received one, spare Pledge Appeal packs including pledge forms can be found at the back of the church. Thanks, David Ryder – Treasurer.

WOT NO WOMEN BISHOPS If you would like to contribute to a banner championing the ordination of women to the episcopate, please contribute to the collection box at the back of church.

We greatly look forward to his arrival.

WATCH this space.  Women And The CHurch  are looking for new members and financial support.  Is there any energy for a local branch? This is one way of ensuring that appropriate legislation comes before the next Synod and that we are better represented in the process.  Let Sue or Anne know if you’d like to be involved.

CHRISTMAS DINNER Thanks to the efforts of The Christmas Team, plus a number of behind-the-scenes folks. 76 people did feast upon a turkey dinner (one each!) in the lounge and narthex on Christmas Day. A combination of a big effort, some Christmas magic, and a little bit of alchemy, meant lots of people who might otherwise have eaten alone went away happy, and without food poisoning(!) for the third year running. If you can’t wait for the Messenger article, http://www.flickr.com/photos/53079662@N07/ will show you some more pictures; and obviously I’d be more than happy to chat to anyone who wants to know more. Gary.

MICHAEL’S ORDINATION – THANK YOU I would like to thank all those who supported me in the Cathedral last Sunday, all those who sent cards and good wishes and all those who assured me of their prayers.  Michael Burn.
