DIOCESAN LENT CHALLENGE This Lent we are inviting church members across the Diocese to take ‘A Step Away from Meat’ and ‘A Step Towards Fairtrade.’ During 2013, all the major Christian and secular relief and development agencies will be campaigning together on food and hunger. In a world which produces enough food to feed everyone on the planet, one in eight people will go to bed hungry tonight. This challenge allows each of us at our table to be a part of a global effort for change. For info see www.sheffield.anglican.org/index.

|PLEDGES 2013 UPDATE – The response to our Pledge Appeal to date has exceeded all expectations and is truly magnificent. We have now received 104 responses promising in total increased giving of £16,800 (including recoverable tax) compared to our target of £13,000. Responses comprise 13 new pledges, 58 increases, 28 no changes and 5 decreases. Very grateful thanks to all who have responded so far. This result gives confidence that we can continue to maintain the work and service of the Church and also cushion against any future income reductions. Further responses are still welcome and if you have not yet done so, please return your pledge form as soon as possible. Spare pledge appeal packs and pledge forms can be found in the brown envelopes at the back of the Church. David Ryder – Treasurer.

|A FAIR DEAL FOR SHEFFIELD?
Sheffield City Council is being forced by the Government to cut its expenditure by £50 million for the financial year 2012/13. In 2011/12, SCC had £5,925 per pupil to spend on education and support services; the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea had £8,920 – £2,995 more per child. Is this fair? Cuts are also being forced on South Yorkshire Police and Fire Services whilst Surrey and Hampshire get increases. Is this fair? Please sign a city-wide petition either online at www.afairdealforsheffield.com or using the forms in church. Stuart Bennett.
