Mike, who has been a part of St Mark’s whilst undertaking doctoral research in biblical studies at Sheffield University, will take up this post in September. WELCOME to members of Mental Health Uganda (Gulu) who are currently on secondment in Sheffield and worshipping at St Mark’s. MHU is committed to empowering persons with mental illness to lead dignified lives in war-torn parts of Uganda.
REV’D NEIL BOWLER, currently Rector of Whiston and Area Dean of Rotherham, has been appointed the next Vicar of St John’s Ranmoor and is expected to take up this post in Autumn.

|ANNIVERSARY CONCERT there will be a concert to celebrate the musical life of St Mark’s on Saturday, 28 September, the anniversary weekend. If will feature works by St Mark’s musicians past and present, including songs from Cousin John and Lionstale. If you would like to be part of it, there will be rehearsals as follows: after choir practice on Thursday 19 September; after 10.00 service on Sunday 22 September; on the day at 4.00pm. MOSQUE OPEN DAY will be held at the Marzaki Islamic Centre on Sunday 11 August, 3.00pm – 7.00pm. This event will be an opportunity for people from all faiths to come together in a climate of understanding and appreciation to learn more about Islam and Muslims. BROOMHALL FESTIVAL arranged for Saturday 10 August 2013 has had to be postponed to Saturday 31 August 2013 from 12.00 noon to 4.00 pm. This decision is a result of the Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations that have been organised to mark the end of the month of Ramadan, which will involve many of the members of the Broomhall community. The Broomhall Festival aims to promote ‘Unity in the Community’. All offers of help to Sue or Robin Story ASAP please!

NEW IN THE LIBRARY Women, Ageing and Archetypes Margaret Stone. Women face a host of challenges as we age, from social disrespect, to physical changes, to the hard work of psychological adjustment. This book aims to explore these changes experienced by women, and offer help to find strength, power and courage to embrace this later stage of life. Margaret Stone, who is a member of our congregation, has a doctorate in evolutionary biology, and worked on a medical journal before retraining as a children and families social worker. She is a qualified counsellor, child and family therapist.
