Weekly Update – 15th December 2013

STAFF CHANGE Mike Kok will soon be leaving us to return to his native Canada (final Sunday – 12 January).  Fortunately, there will be a seamless transition with Robert Beard taking over as our next Worker with Students and Young Adults from the beginning of 2014.  We offer them both our thanks and good wishes.

PLEDGE APPEAL FOR 2014 To date 35 responses have been received with total extra giving of £4,800 (including recovered tax) promised in a full year towards the £13,400 required. The responses include 2 new pledges and 21 increases. This is very encouraging at such an early stage in the Appeal and grateful thanks to all who have responded so far.  Clearly we have some way to go in order to have sufficient income next year to maintain the work and mission of the Church.  Consequently, if you have not done so please return your pledge form as soon as possible (even if you are unable to increase your giving). Spare Pledge Appeal packs including a pledge form are available at the back of the Church. Thanks, David Ryder, Treasurer.

‘INEQUALITY: HOW IT HURTS US ALL’ TONIGHT at 6.00 pm. Whether you have read The Spirit Level or not, you will likely perceive the corrosive growth of inequality in the UK. Michael Miller will summarise the book’s message, suggesting ways we can get back to a more equal society. All welcome.

CONGREGATIONAL LIST If you would like a copy, please contact Anne P. 50p or an electronic copy for free.

CTBB CHRISTMAS CARDS are now available for distribution and we need to deliver to households in Broomhill.  Please collect a street bundle before you go.  Thank you!

AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL GREETINGS CARD CAMPAIGN After morning service today at the back of church you can sign greetings cards to prisoners of conscience and detained human rights activists including journalists. It takes only a few minutes to send a message of hope to someone who may think they may have been forgotten. Instructions and cards are on the table.

STATIONS OF LIFE – BIRTH The first station is in place on the north wall and will, in time, be joined by others, marking different transitions in life.  Please pay a visit and reflect on your experiences.  There is also a handout available explaining the purpose of the ‘Stations’ project.  If there is one you would like to be marked, please mention it to Ian, Sue or Liz Anson.

BREATHE DEEP is a youth development day for 11-18s throughout the diocese.  It will take place on Saturday 25 January at St Tom’s, Philadelphia Campus, Gilpin Street, Sheffield, S6 3BL.  For more details and to book: www.breathedeepday.info.

A DEMONSTRATION & MARCH AGAINST THE IMMIGRATION BILL: Wednesday 18 December, starting at 12 noon at Moorfoot, then to the Town Hall for speeches at 12.30 and finally at 1.00 pm to Vulcan House (Home Office). This bill imposes intrusive checks on migrants and removes their rights of appeal. Please join the demo. David Price (296 0806)
