Weekly News for 6th April 2014

PASSIONTIDE CHORAL SERVICE 6.00 pm on NEXT SUNDAY.  The service will incorporate the Requiem by Henry Walford Davies, first published in 1915 and composed “In Sacred Memory of all those who have fallen in the war.”  The service will also include a number of thematic organ devotions.  All welcome.

On 28/29 March, Judith Greenall participated in a ‘Sleep Out’ to raise funds for the Cathedral Archer Project. She would like to thank all her generous sponsors.  So far she has raised £600. Belated donations can be made online at www.justgiving.com/JGreenall, or in person after Night Service.

SHEFFIELD CARERS’ CENTRE is looking for a new Chair – could this be you?  A voluntary position, you’d help direct and develop the Centre’s mission as well as ensure its future sustainability. ANNUAL REPORT reviewing church life throughout 2013 and, in some cases, up to the end of March 2014 is out.  Contributions of 50p, please. 

CHURCH ELECTIONS for Churchwardens, Parochial Church Councillors and Deanery Synod Reps will take place at the Annual Parochial Church Meetings (see below).  Who would you like to serve as a Churchwarden or represent you on the PCC or Deanery Synod? Are you willing to serve? Nomination forms can be found at the back of church, along with the box for completed forms.

ANNUAL PAROCHIAL CHURCH MEETINGS will be held THIS WEDNESDAY.  Cheese, biscuits and wine will be served from 6.30 pm with the meetings starting at 7.00 pm.  If you could help with this, please see Mary-Jane or Briony.  We will be reviewing the past year and looking forward to the next as well as electing two Churchwardens, up to 15 members of the Parochial Church Council and two Deanery Synod reps.

ST MARK’S GARDEN PROJECT is still fit and well, although its launch has been delayed for the time being.  But the time will come so watch this space!

(2) At 12 noon on Wed 16 April, we shall mark the end of the fast with a vigil outside Nick Clegg’s Constituency Office. Scott Albrecht, a 40 day faster, will hand in a letter from 300 clergy. Please come if you can.

WATCH flyers are at the back of church, which say what you can do to help the journey of women in ministry.  Please feel free to take some and to distribute them among those you know in other churches.  LUNCH DATES FOR YOUR DIARY Sunday lunch will happen NEXT SUNDAY (host – Mary-Jane Ryder), 18 May (host – Briony Tayler), 8 June – shared meal with CTBB at St Andrew’s URC. Any volunteers to host lunch in July?!GOODWILL CHILDREN’S HOMES  There will be a fund-raising coffee morning for this project to help orphans in India, (which we support through our overseas donations) on this Saturday from 10.00 am to 12.30 pm at 1 High Wray Close (off Millhouses Lane).  Contact Pauline Miller for more info. 

GARDEN PARTY SAT 14 JUNE Jane Padget and Briony Tayler are co-ordinating this. If you’d like to be part of this exciting event, we need volunteers to act as helpers and stallholders. Please sign up, or speak to Jane or Briony.
