CHRISTIAN AID UPDATE Thank you to everyone (especially Gary) who contributed to Busk Aid in the city centre on 10 May – the event raised £475.

THURSDAY DISCUSSION GROUP Join us on Thursdays from 11.15-12.15 to discuss Poetry (1st Thursday of the month), Bible Study (3rd Thursday of the month) and ‘Sharing our Journey’ (2nd and 4th Thursday of the month). All are welcome and no preparation is necessary. ‘Sharing our Journey’ is a way of sharing, listening and reflecting on our Life journey together, so just bring yourself. Coffee /tea and biscuits provided.

TRAVELS WITH MY AUNT Philip Booth will be showing pictures of his recent trip round the world – including Angkor Wat and a hundredth birthday party – in the lounge at 7.30 pm THIS WEDNESDAY. All welcome.

KNIT AND NATTER GROUP This had a very successful first session and will be meeting up again THIS SATURDAY at Doreen Godden’s house between 10.30 am and 12 noon. Please bring your own projects – knitting or other crafts, e.g. embroidery – or some pink wool and needles for more squares for the Wool against Weapons.  Tea and coffee provided.  Future dates (venue: church): 12 July; 16 August; 13 September. INDEPENDENT AGE, the national support community for older people in the UK and Ireland, needs new volunteer befrienders in Sheffield. This role entails making regular visits to one of the older people we support in the area, for a cup of tea and a chat and is hugely important for the people we support. Volunteers receive a full induction and ongoing training. In addition, all expenses incurred are reimbursed. ASCENSION DAY A special service THIS THURSDAY at 7.30 pm, followed by a ‘Christian Aid’ buffet supper hosted by the International Committee.  Tickets: £5 waged; £3 concessions. A short film about the lives of an Argentinian community struggling to maintain their unique identity and culture, will be shown.

GARDEN PARTY 14 JUNE  Contributions for the Treasures, books and Toys stalls are welcome. Bring them on a Sunday, or contact Jane or Briony if you need transport. Helpers are still needed for Children’s games, plants and elsewhere; do please sign up or get in touch.

CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS Broomhill Festival will soon be here and there are lots of events, mostly at St Mark’s, needing helpers to sell tickets, staff the box office and serve refreshments. Please sign up at the back of church – we need a small army!

20th ANNIVERSARY of women’s ordination to the priesthood will be celebrated here on Sunday 15 June at 10.00 am when Sue will preside and Rev’d Sarah Hills, Bishop’s Adviser in Pastoral Care and Reconciliation, will preach. The Diocese will also be celebrating on Saturday 14 June at 11.00 am at the cathedral when the preacher will be the Venerable Jane Sinclair.  All welcome.

STREETS AHEAD Work on improving roads, pavements, lighting and drainage will commence in the parish in June.  For more information, attend the Roadshow on 3 June in the Broomhall Centre on Broomspring Lane, 3.30 – 6.30 pm.

PENTECOST As usual, we shall be worshipping with our partner churches in CTBB.  This year the service will take place in St Andrew’s URC, Upper Hanover Street, on Sunday 8 June at 10.30 am (nb later time)
