INVITATION TO WHIRLOW CELEBRATIONS At Whirlow Grange Conference Centre on Monday 21st July 2014 at 6pm.  Whirlow is due to close on 31st July and friends are invited to enjoy the warmth and depth of experience that Whirlow is noted for. The evening will have a service of thanksgiving and celebration, and will conclude with an informal buffet supper. In order to cater for the occasion, please RSVP to

DATES FOR YOUR DIARY Please make sure you’re free on Saturday 27 September for our day together with Canon Richard Giles, creative liturgist and worship leader, and for the weekend of 18-20 September 2015 when the Hayes Conference Centre, Swanwick, is booked for our parish weekend together.

40TH ANNIVERSARY CONCERT – The  Sheffield Chorale Choir (David, Peter & Anna Ryder are members) is performing its Ruby Anniversary concert on Saturday 19 July, 7.30pm at St Andrews Church, Psalter Lane.  For details of the programme see the poster in the Church entrance and for tickets please contact David Ryder.

BAKEWELL GREEN FESTIVAL – Celebrating Sustainable Living in the Peak District, on Saturday 12 July, 10.00 am – 6.00 pm, Agricultural Business Centre, Bakewell.  Free Entry. Poster in the Foyer.

WATCH flyers detailing what you can do to help the journey of women in ministry are available.  Please take some and distribute to other churches.CONGRATULATIONS to JAMES ANDOW AND AIMIE HOPE who are getting married here on Saturday 5th July.  All are welcome!  The ceremony begins at 3.30 with tea & scones, then the Marriage Service at 4pm. No dress code, just come as you are! 

UTU BOOK SALE will take place on Saturday 12 July, 12 noon – 3.00 pm, at Victoria Hall Methodist church.  A huge range of quality books will be available.  Please see the poster in the foyer..

BURNGREAVE ASHRAM Multifaith Chapel & Library is holding their Meditation/Prayer Lunch Seminar on 7th July. For more info on this and future events, please see poster in the foyer.

THURSDAY DISCUSSION GROUP Join us on Thursdays from 11.15-12.15 to discuss Poetry (1st Thursday of the month), Bible Study (3rd Thursday) and ‘Sharing our Journey’ (2nd and 4th Thursdays). All are welcome and no prep. is necessary. ‘Sharing our Journey’ is a way of listening & reflecting on our Life journey together, so just bring yourself. Coffee /tea and biscuits provided.  Flyers on the card stall.

CATHEDRAL ARCHER PROJECT are continuing with their summer events.  My Sleep Out: Saturday 12 July, Have you always wanted to take part in a Sleep Out but never quite had the time to commit? Or would you like a more child-friendly equivalent? Then My Sleep Out is just for you. And Sleep Out at the Cathedral: Friday 5 September, this is a unique experience of sleeping out in the centre of Sheffield. Are you up to the challenge? WORSHIP SURVEY It is nearly four years since the last comprehensive review of our worship.  Over the coming months, there will be opportunities to reflect further to help us prepare services that all can experience as spiritually edifying, true to Jesus and congruent with the Anglican way.  As a first step and following on from Ian’s sermon series, ‘Living Eucharist’ (available on St Mark’s website and booklets on the card stall), you are invited to complete a brief Questionnaire which focuses on key aspects of the 10.00 am service.  A box for completed forms can be found in the narthex.  Thank you.

ORGAN REFURBISHMENT is well and truly underway.  During this interim period, musical accompaniment will be supplied by a chamber organ, piano or another instrument.

PCC UPDATE Copies of the green flyer highlighting key outcomes from the June meeting are available at the back of church.

A BIG THANK YOU to everyone who contributed to the Garden Party, especially to the organisers Jane Padget and Briony Tayler. It was a splendid effort which grossed in excess of £3000, most of which will go to the Festival charities.BROOMHILL FESTIVAL CLOSES  after nearly 70 events, 25 of which were hosted at St Mark’s. A huge thank you to the small band of dedicated volunteers who made sure each event was properly organised and staffed, especially Derek Collins, Jonathan Earle, Rodney Hickman, Leni Oglesby, Alan Wellings and Eva Wilkinson as well as the Festival Administrator, Paula Thomas.

14 JULY is scheduled to be the day when General Synod, meeting in York, will give final approval (hopefully) to the Women in the Episcopate legislation.

CONGRATULATIONS to James and Jen Ryder whose daughter, Olive, was born at 7.20am on Friday 13 June at 8.267lbs!  A truly festive event!

CONGRATULATIONS to Tim Gregory on his appointment as Outreach Worker with Children and Young People.  He will also be licensed to the parish as an Honorary Assistant Curate.

SECURITY Recently, the office was broken into – a crime made easier because one of the doors into the upper room was left unlocked.  Users of restricted areas (lounge, upper room, vestry), please take extra care to ensure that all doors are locked before leaving the room unattended. Thank you.
