CHURCH WEEKEND AWAY Following the success of our weekend in 2012, we have booked the Hayes Conference Centre, Swanwick, for 18-20 September 2015.  This is definitely one not to miss.  For all ages and outlooks!

STATIONS OF LIFE LETTING GO is the title of our third Station of Life, to be found in the font area of church.

KNITTING GROUP The next meeting is THIS SATURDAY, 10.30am – 12 noon in the church lounge. All welcome, either with your own knitting, crochet, cross stitch or we can get you started with some charity projects. Further details from Alison, 2214578 or Jennie, 2303718.

HOME PRODUCE A reminder that if you’re making jams or chutney over the summer, please could you do extra jars for the Harvest Produce stall? Donations of empty jars for others to use would also be welcome. Thanks, Alison.

CAR WASH & CAKE SALE to raise funds for the Broomhall Girls’ Club is a weekend away. The girls will be washing cars during the 10.00 am Service on Sunday 17 August and selling home baking afterwards. If you’d like your car washing, please park in the church car park and put a sign in your windscreen “Please wash Me!” For more information ask Sue H or Isabel L-J.  How much does it cost?  We leave that up to you!

CREATING UNCOMMON WORSHIP is the title of our morning together with Canon Richard Giles, an internationally-acclaimed authority on liturgical worship, on Saturday 27 September, 9.30 am – 1.30 pm. Richard will help us to think about how we can enrich our worship through creative use of movement and space as well as in other ways.  Further details out soon.

CRC AUTUMN CONFERENCE Rowan Williams will lead a day on the theme, ‘Faith in search of understanding today,’ on Saturday 8 November, 10.00 am – 3.30 pm.  Tickets: £18 (non-members); £15 (CRC/PCN); £5 (students/unwaged). Places are going quickly so book early!

CONGRATULATIONS! Judith Pitchforth has just achieved her M.Sc in Education Leadership and Management.  Fantastic news!

MUSICIANS: ST MARK’S NEEDS YOU! Do you sing in the shower? How would you like to sing in St Mark’s Choir instead? We rehearse weekly on Thursdays, 6.30-8pm for Sunday morning worship. Do you play an instrument? How would you like to lead the music on Sunday morning or at Night Service? St Mark’s is looking to hear more from our talented congregation! BROOMHALL FESTIVAL – 30 August – celebrates food & festivities with open allotments, tours around the Community Gardens, cooking demos, stalls, afternoon tea at the Broomhall Centre and family fun at the Jesus Centre.  Volunteers to help and offers of home-baked scones, jam and cream(!) please. ST MARK’S ARCHIVES A small group is working to preserve the historical records of St Mark’s. Further members would be welcome. DONALD SMITH died early on 28 July, peacefully at home with Josie by his side.  Donald was an inspiring, faith-filled and loving man who had just celebrated 60 years as a Methodist lay preacher and was greatly loved here at St Mark’s.

SOUTH YORKSHIRE POLICE & CRIME COMMISSIONER Shaun Wright has launched his summer grant scheme. Non-profit groups providing activities in South Yorkshire are encouraged to apply for funding of up to £10,000. Groups should be working towards: reducing antisocial behaviour; protecting the vulnerable; preventing reoffending; ensuring victims/witnesses get a better deal. Further details:

BROOMHILL LIBRARY Our much-loved local library will close in October unless enough volunteers come forward.  An enthusiastic group is working to ensure that this valuable community asset has a future.
