Weekly Sheet ~ 25th January 2015

MARCUS BORG very sadly died on Wednesday morning, aged 72.  Marcus was a tremendous scholar and leading voice in Progressive Christianity and the study of the historical Jesus.  He was also Patron of St. Mark’s CRC, having been with us from the beginning, and was a wonderfully kind, humble and generously spirited man.  His loss will be greatly felt.CONSULTATION ON THE PARISH PROFILEMany thanks to those who responded to the consultation for the Parish Profile. PLEDGE APPEAL FOR 2015 – To date 75 responses have been received with total extra giving of £9,340 (including recovered tax) promised towards our target of £10,000 (unfortunately this is a reduction on last week’s total because some have been obliged to decrease their pledges).  If you have not yet responded please do so to help us reach our target!  Spare Pledge Appeal packs including a pledge form are available at the back of the Church.  Please respond prayerfully to this request.BROOMHALL BREAKFAST (Friday 8-10am) is very grateful for all St Marks’ support, including the generous collection of £109.55 last week. We need some more volunteers to act as befrienders – to share breakfast and conversation with our guests.  Please have a word with Sue if you’re interested.  Thank you!

BROOMHALL YOUTH CLUB COMMITTTEE MEMBERS NEEDED URGENTLY  The Friday evening Youth Club (Boys) needs a committed Steering Group to help establish good working practice and raise funds or else this group is likely to close, with far-reaching consequences for young people in Broomhall.  I’m looking for 2 or 3 people willing to take the initiative and get this group back on its feet.  Youth Workers are in place – we just need an injection of enthusiasm and management skill.  Could this be you?  Please contact Sue.  Support will be provided.

FRIENDSHIP CLUB Wednesdays at 1.30pm in the lounge. 28 January: Steve Drinkall shows slides on “Tales of the Riverbank”. All welcome.  Modest charge.

Details: Rosalind 268 1426.

NEW CONGREGATIONAL LIST We are putting together a brand new Congregational List from scratch.  This is NOT the same as the Electoral Roll.  It is a contact list for every member of the congregation to be on if they wish to.  A copy of it is then made available for everyone who is on that list.  If you only want your contact details to be available to the clergy, there is also that option.  Please can EVERYBODY who wishes to be on the list (both public and clergy only ones) – fill in a form at the back and put it in the box provided by 22 MARCH.  The new list will be out from Easter Sunday.ST MARK’S PHOTO ALBUM Alongside updating the congregational list, we would like to update our photo album. Please look and see if your photo is in the yellow album which can be found on a table near the chapel and if not, ask me to take one or e-mail one to me at Shan@stmarkssheffield.co.uk. I’m happy to crop it if it includes other people, but this means it needs to be high resolution.

COMMUNITY WEEK 16-20 February.  Students and their unions from both universities will be coming together to entertain the community during the half term break.  They’ll be a range of free interactive activities around the Winter Garden.  A full time-table of activities will be available from early February at www. sheffield.ac.uk/dream/community-week

RECYCLING CHRISTMAS CARDS

Collecting boxes are by the tills in main M&S stores. Each 1000 cards enables one tree to be planted, which has resulted in 34,000 trees in the past 5 years! Please do your bit.
