Weekly Update ~ 26th April 2015

ANNUAL PAROCHIAL CHURCH MEETINGSTHIS Wednesday 29 April 7.00pm with refreshments from 6.30.  The APCM is our annual meeting where we agree how the church will be run over the next year, approve our accounts and elect members of the PCC and other lay representatives. All welcome.  Nomination forms for the PCC are available from the back of church and should be submitted prior to the APCM.

MEETING OF PARISHIONERS to elect churchwardens.  Nomination forms are available from the back of church and must be submitted prior to the meeting. This meeting will start at 7.00pm and be followed by the APCM.

ANNUAL REPORT This is now out and available.  You will find a copy at the back of church.

ORGAN RECITAL THIS Friday 1 May, 7.30pm to give thanks for all involved in the organ restoration. Andrew Linn will be returning to perform on our restored instrument. Entrance is free, but you will need a ticket – please see Briony.

MENTAL HEALTH – CHALLENGE OR OPPORTUNITY? This diocesan Study Day continues to grow in popularity and three more are planned for 2015; Saturdays 13 June, 5 September and 31 October. PCN’S SPRING CONFERENCE is at Bloomsbury Central Baptist Church, on Saturday, 9 May 2015 at 11am.  It will be led by Mark Oakley, Canon Chancellor of St Paul’s Cathedral, on the theme “A DAY IN THE FOUNTAIN: exploring poetry”. Book at www.pcnbritain.org.uk.

DIOCESAN VISIT TO GERMANY IN OCTOBER 2015 – COME AND JOIN US! CHRISTIAN AID MAY DAY TREK – 4TH MAY Three routes available this year – 6, 11 and 16 mile round walks from St Luke’s, Lodge Moor. Registration & info at www.sheffieldmaydaytrek.org.uk. CLIMATE CHANGE HUSTINGS. THIS Tuesday 28 April, 7.00pm at St Mark’s. Hope for the Future and Christian Aid are hosting a climate change election discussion and debate. It will be an opportunity to hear from and question prospective Sheffield parliamentary candidates about their position on climate justice issues. With:

Oliver Coppard (Labour, Sheffield Hallam), Jillian Creasy (Green, Sheffield Central) and Howard Denby (UKIP, Sheffield Heeley).

 

FRIENDSHIP CLUB Wednesdays at 1.30p.m. in the lounge. 29 April:  Gill MacGregor will speak about the Royal Maundy. All welcome.  Modest charge. Details from Rosalind 268 1426.

PARISH WEEKEND  – PROVING POPULAR!Bookings are going well for this and places are limited.  Come along to what will be a wonderful weekend together at the Hayes Conference Centre, Swanwick, on 18-20 September 2015!  Please see the flyers at the back.

LEARN AND BOOST CHURCH FUNDS Join one of our Enneagram Workshops.  Some people bid at the Auction of Promises for a place.  We now have three planned: 30 May , 18 July or 17 October. Come along and have fun and learn! (minimum £8 each – donations above very welcome to support church outreach and Parish Weekend).  For info have a chat with Jane or Anne Padget.

FUN, FITNESS & FOOD Please support a fund raising event at the Crosspool Beacon at Stephen Hill. Tuesday 12 May, 3pm – 4.30pm. Craft stalls, cakes to buy and refreshments to enjoy. All welcome. £4 tickets from Jane Padget.

WEDDING INVITATION Jonathan Williamson and Cath Osgerby warmly invite all at St Mark’s to their wedding service on 23 May at 2pm, and for cake and bubbly in the church afterwards!

LIBRARY Following a very successful visit by Val Webb her latest three books are now in the library.

UNDECIDED VOTERS The Joseph Rowntree Trust have a website called “Vote for Policies” which might help  you decide which way to vote. The questions cover 10 topics, and for each you are given 5 sets of policies to choose from, without being told which party proposes them. At the end you get a party profile matching your selection. If you cover all 10 topics it takes about 50 minutes to complete.  http://voteforpolicies.org.uk/

MUSICIANS: ST MARK’S NEEDS YOU! Do you sing in the shower? How would you like to sing in St Mark’s Choir instead? We rehearse weekly on Thursdays, 6.30-8pm to prepare for our contributions to Sunday morning worship. Do you play an instrument? How would you like to lead the music at a Sunday morning Service or a Night Service? St Mark’s is looking to hear more and more from our talented congregation, and to get all of our musicians involved!
