BROOMHILL FESTIVAL UPDATE!  What a great first week we’ve had with lots of very moving music played by high calibre musicians as well as lots of stimulating talks.  Please promote and support as many of the events as you can in this the final week. In particular, on THURSDAY experience the Legacies of Waterloo, with an insightful talk followed by a stirring programme of music for remembrance sung by a 90 strong Chorus; and also check out FRIDAY with Ed Aczel, a really funny stand-up comedian, (see him on youtube).  Please also buy Grand Prize Draw tickets at the box office. All the events so far have been a joyful celebration of community. GARDEN PARTY 20 June We are now open for business!  Please bring all your “stuff”. Contributions for Treasures, books and Toys stalls are all welcome.

PARISH WEEKEND – PROVING POPULAR! Thank you to all who have already booked.  There are still places available if you’re thinking of coming.  It promises to be a wonderful weekend together at the Hayes Conference Centre, Swanwick, on 18-20 September 2015!  Please see the flyers at the back.

NEW PUBLICATION John Wood has produced a booklet which is on sale for a £1.00 at the back of the Church. This is entitled ‘John Wood looks at the Bible’ and includes the sermon he preached at St Mark’s on his 90th birthday.  He hopes the contents will be of interest to friends at St Mark’ s and hopefully  intends to publish 5 other booklets in the series.

WEDDING INVITATIONS! On Saturday 11th July at 2.30pm

Rosamund Brown, daughter of Alan and Judith, will be marrying Jan Ragnar Storheim at St Mark’s. Both live and work in Oslo, Norway but are looking forward to marrying in Rosamund’s childhood church. A warm welcome to all!

ALSO Although now exiled in London, Matt Pitchforth and Sophie Turner will be married here at St Mark’s on Saturday 18th July at 1.00 pm and extend a warm welcome to anyone who is able to join them for the ceremony.

SHORT TERM ACCOMMODATION NEEDED FOR POST GRAD STUDENT Catherine is coming to Sheffield Hallam to do a post grad medical diploma in September and will be here for a total of 11 weeks between September and Feb next year. She is looking for a homestay family who could accommodate her during that time (possibly even just during the week). She will be at university  all day and will have a lot of work to do in the evenings.  If you can help please contact her mum on ruthshepherd@sky.com

CONTINUE TO FAST AND PRAY FOR CLIMATE JUSTICE A few of us met to pray together on 1st June.  Please continue in your prayersfor a meaningful and just global climate agreement at the UN climate talks. (www.prayandfastfortheclimate.org.uk). If you would like their Prayer points write your name on the list on the Climate Justice notice board.

CLIMATE CHANGE LOBBY The Climate Coalition is organising a lobby of the new Parliament on Wed 17th June, entitled “Speak Up for the Love of….” Ecumenical services at 12noon, lobbying constituency MPs 1-4pm. SUPPORT FOR CONGO Richard Hide will be taking part in a long distance run in the Eastern Congo.  Run Across Congo is 7 marathons in 7 days covering over 300km along the shores of Lake Kivu and into the mountains where the inspiring coffee communities in Eastern DR Congo live, working together for gender equality and stability in the region.  For more info go to www.virginmoney

JULY 5 WITH NOEL MOULES All Age Service followed by food and games on the Green, Afternoon Tea and Night Service.  We’re hoping that lots of people will stay after church to meet Noel (who’ll be helping to inspire us on our Parish weekend) and to help raise more funds for bursaries.  Watch this space for more details…

BOTTLE TOPS Thanks to everyone who has been collecting plastic bottle tops for Diabetes UK. The response has been amazing. Sadly, they have decided not to receive any more because they are snowed under and do not have the manpower to sort them, so I won’t be able to take any more. Carol Rowe

 

BISHOPSCROFT GARDEN OPEN DAY Bishop Steven and Ann are having a Garden Open Day on 28th June between 2pm and 5pm and invite anyone along who wishes to join them.  Please see the poster in the foyer for more details.
