It’s Interfaith Week – we’re keeping our doors open, and a message from Abdul Kadir Gooljar…

Following the atrocities in Paris, public spaces are being closed. This church is opening its doors and inviting you to come in as a gesture of HOPE.

You are invited to write messages of solidarity for those caught up in the violence in Paris, whatever your religious beliefs.

This Interfaith Week, November 15-22, let us make a stand together against hatred and fear and witness to hope.

Please see this sheet, Response to violence, for prayers you could use during this week.

Alongside this, in the spirit of Interfaith Week…

PRESS RELEASE from Abdul:

The terrorist attack in Paris is sickening and utterly wrong.

The attacks once again in Paris are horrific and abhorrent, and we condemn this violence in the strongest possible terms. My thoughts and prayers goes out to the families of those killed and injured and for the people of France, our neighbours.

It is an attack not just on the people of France, but on all of the us here in Britain, on our fundamental and personal freedoms. It was equally an attack upon Islam and the legacy of it’s teacher Muhammad (SAWM).

We stand behind our Prime Minister, who conveys our message of condolence to the French people and shares our resolve.

We believe that individual liberty is a light and a gift from God – a higher Islamic purpose for social justice and greater good.

The act of terrorism in Paris today is a stark reminder of what we can take for granted, of what is worth protecting and fighting for.

This attack is being claimed by the group calling themselves ‘Islamic State’. There is nothing Islamic about such people and their actions are evil, and outside the boundaries set by our faith.

This week we have once again witnessed outrageous attacks, be that in Beirut earlier in the week or Paris today – there is no justification for such carnage whatsoever. We hope the remaining people responsible are brought to justice and face the full force of the law.

ISLAMIC SOCIETY OF BRITAIN, 14th November 2015, Abdul Kadir Gooljar – Branch President (South Yorkshire)
