Briony LENT 2016 MEETING GOD IN MARK This is your last opportunity to sign up as groups start next week.  Course booklets are ready for collection from the back of church.  Pre-ordered copies of Rowan Williams’ book are now available for £7.00 and extra copies are being made available from the library, please let Anne know if you would like to borrow one.  Although the book is the basis of the course there is a real emphasis this year on sharing our own stories, so please don’t be put off if you don’t have much appetite for reading. All are welcome!  Sue Is a Radical Church Possible? is the title of Adrian Alker’ s book. If you wish to order a copy at a pre publication price of £8.99 please contact Adrian either by email, Adrian.christine@googlemail.com or phone 07595 249791.     A CALL FOR PHOTOS In preparation for St Marks’s night service on the theme of our love for the planet on Valentines Day, Jo is asking for your favourite photos of nature as part of a presentation for reflection. It could be a personal and/ or professional photo, can include some people you love, a painting – all will be welcome! David Price KIM WILLIS Many of you know that Kim has been exploring her call to ordained ministry for a while now.  Her final 3 day interview for ministry is taking place 15-17 February.  She would be very grateful if you could keep her in your thoughts during this time. Sue ISLAM AWARENESS WEEK On Friday 18th March at St. Mark’s there will be an opportunity to share food and friendship with others in celebrating Islam Awareness Week.  This is an open event with the Council of Mosques, St Mark’s Church and friends.  If you would be willing to make a dessert for this event please write this up on the flipchart at the back. All are welcome. Gary and Sue BROOMHILL FESTIVAL PUB EVENTS It would be very helpful to have some extra hands for planning and running the pub events for this year’s festival.  This year there will be a Cup for the pub that raises the most money, so there is extra excitement! FIRE SAFETY TRAINING  Anyone who leads a group in church should attend a training session on Sunday morning Feb 14th or 28th 11.30-12.00.  If you have not already received an email and should be included, please tell Robin Saunders (rsaunders122@gmail.com or 2665403) LAY MINISTRY – WHAT NEXT EVENTThe “Exploring your Call” event, organised by the Diocese, is for anyone who may be interested in developing their Lay Ministry. Sue OPPORTUNITY FOR GROUPS TO MEET In April the Broomhill Ward boundaries will change becoming Broomhill and Sharrow Vale (Broomhill and Broomhall will come under the same Ward).  Broomhill Ward Councillors would like to invite groups to the Broomhall Centre on Wednesday 9th March, 4pm – 7pm to share info about activities and promote volunteering opportunities. It is an open event for all members of the community Please see the poster in the foyer for more information about how a group you’re involved with can attend.  Anne in the office has booking forms.   Sue REACHING BEYOND OUR GRASP – EXPLORING WORSHIP: HOW AND WHY The next PCN Britain conference will be at St. John’s and St. Peter’s Church in Birmingham on Saturday 5th March.  It will include contributions from Revd. Dr. Jan Berry and Revd. Dr David Lambourn of Sea of Faith. Please see flyers at the back. Sue / Sibylle PLEDGES FOR 2016 – We are grateful to have received 72 responses to date with net total extra giving promised of approximately £1,000 (including recovered tax).   However, so that we can be sure of the total level of the Church’s income for this year it is important that we receive back more pledge forms and, if you are a tax payer, the yellow Gift Aid declaration form.    If you have not already done so, please therefore return your pledge form and Gift Aid declaration to Judith Pitchforth as soon as possible.  Spare Pledge Appeal packs including a pledge form are available at the back of the Church if you need one.   Thanks.  David Ryder, Treasurer.   YELLOW GIFTAID FORMS HMRC has changed the wording of the Giftaid declaration meaning I need an up to date signed form for everyone in the congregation able to Giftaid donations made via standing order or white envelope. The forms were in the pledge pack, but if you have mislaid yours, please contact me and I will let you have a replacement.
