JESUS:HEALER & EXORCIST Ian Wallis will be visiting St. Mark’s again when he will be the speaker at the next CRC conference on Saturday 16 April. He will be addressing questions about Jesus’ reputation as a healer and exorcist, and the implications of this for the sick, oppressed and marginalised. COACH TO BIRMINGHAM – MAY 14TH We hope to run a coach to Birmingham for the Marcus Borg lecture on May 14th. The cost of the return travel will be £17. FOLK FOR REFUGEE CONCERT A group of Sheffield folk performers are holding a concert on Saturday 9 April at 7.30pm at St. Mark’s Church in aid of the refugee work of the British Red Cross. |PCC 2016-2017 At our APCM on April 17, we will be electing PCC members for the next year. The PCC makes decisions on a broad range of issues affecting church life and helps to shape the vision and strategy of what we do here at St Mark’s, so we’re keen to invite people of all ages and stages of life to stand for election. Nomination Forms are available at the back of church, and need to be in by 12.30pm on Friday 15 April. Please put them in the box provided. ISLAM AWARENESS WEEK: CONNECTING COMMUNITIES.
It is our privilege to be hosting a significant event during IAW this year, THIS FRIDAY 18 MARCH with speakers from different faith communities and food from different cultures. Please take flyers and invite your friends and neighbours. This is a joint event with the Islamic Society of Britain. If you are willing to make a dessert please write on the flipchart at the back. CHRISTIAN AID WEEK this year is May 15th-21st. It seems far ahead, but we’re already on the lookout for people to help with the house-to-house collection in the parish. The money collected in this way provides a substantial proportion of Sheffield’s contribution to Christian Aid during the week. |GIRLS’ RIGHT TO EDUCATION Sierra Leone schoolgirls, who become pregnant, sometimes by their teachers, are being banned from classes and examinations as official policy – a clear breach of their right to an education. Please sign an Amnesty postcard (available at the back of church) to get the Sierra Leone Government to change its policy. Robin Story
SAD NEWS In the last few weeks we have heard of the deaths of Eva Wilkinson, a stalwart resident of Broomhill, active member of the Festival Committee and local historian; and also of Mary Sharrock, formidable teacher and friend of many at St Mark’s. Our condolences go to both families. Eva’s funeral will be held at Hutcliffe Wood on THIS TUESDAY at 3.00pm. Mary’s funeral will be here at St Mark’s THIS FRIDAY at 12.45pm

SHEFFIELD POEM-A-THON 2nd April 2016, 10am – 6pm at The Art House, Backfields, Sheffield S1 4HJ. FREE ENTRY. A relay of 48 poets will each read for 8 minutes throughout the day.
