JESUS:HEALER & EXORCIST Ian Wallis will be visiting St. Mark’s again when he will be the speaker at the next CRC conference on Saturday 16 April.  He will be addressing questions about Jesus’ reputation as a healer and exorcist, and the implications of this for the sick, oppressed and marginalised.  Booking forms at the back of church on the CRC stall or ask John Schofield or Anne Padget   

COACH TO BIRMINGHAM – MAY 14TH We hope to run a coach to Birmingham for the Marcus Borg lecture on May 14th.  The cost of the return travel will be £17.  We must have bookings by tomorrow in order to be able to confirm with the coach company.   Please see Anne Padget, Helen Fisher or John Schofield for more details.

BAPTISM Abigail will be baptised on Sunday 10th April during the 10am service. We will be providing cake after the service and hope many of our St Marks friends will be able to join us for the occasion. Anna & Pete Ryder

FOLK FOR REFUGEE CONCERT A group of Sheffield folk performers are holding a concert on Saturday 9 April at 7.30pm at St. Mark’s Church in aid of the refugee work of the British Red Cross. CHILDREN’S SOCIETY  A big thank you to all box holders for a total of £410.99 collected in 2015.The society raises £2 million annually from house boxes, if you would like to support the society by saving those small coins please see me. Susan Whitmill

APCM The Annual Parochial Church Meetings will take place on Sunday 17th April at 11.15am after a shorter 10.00am Eucharist.  This will be followed by a Bring & Share Lunch, to which all are welcome. The sign-up sheet will be available soon.   Sue

PCC 2016-2017 At our APCM we will be electing PCC members for the next year. The PCC makes decisions on a broad range of issues affecting church life and helps to shape the vision and strategy of what we do here at St Mark’s, so we’re keen to invite people of all ages and stages of life to stand for election. Nomination Forms are available at the back of church, and need to be in by 12.30pm on Friday 15 April.  Please put them in the box provided.  Current PCC members are happy to chat to you informally if you’d like to know more about what is involved. STUDENT AND YOUNG ADULT GROUP We are starting up a student and young adult group that will take place in term time fortnightly on a Wednesday in the upper room from 7:30.  There will be pizza and some themed discussion. CHRISTIAN AID WEEK this year is May 15th-21st. It seems far ahead, but we’re already on the lookout for people to help with the house-to-house collection in the parish. The money collected in this way provides a substantial proportion of Sheffield’s contribution to Christian Aid during the week. SARAH COLVER will be licensed as the new Associate Vicar of St. Mark’s on the evening of Thursday 21 April at 7.30pm, followed by refreshments. We very much look forward to what she will bring to this community. Sue

GIFT AID Thanks to all who have returned their pledge forms and also their signed yellow Gift Aid forms. If you do pay income tax but have not yet returned the yellow Gift Aid form to me, will you please do so asap – I need them to claim back tax after 5th April 2016.  If you need a replacement yellow form please let me know. OUT OF THIS WORLD is the title of the next Chorus UK concert on Sunday 10th April 3.00pm and it promises to be just that! Performed with the Sheffield Pops Orchestra at the Sheffield City Hall, it will include a eclectic mix ranging from Holst, Beethoven and Haydn to David Bowie, The Beatles and The Carpenters.  Flyers at the back or speak to Anne and Jane Padget or Carol Rowe about tickets.  Anne Padget

CHRISTIAN AID invites you to their POVERTY and PASTRIES event at Central URC on Saturday 9 April, in preparation for Christian Aid Week. The meeting will be 10.30am-12 noon, with coffee and croissants etc. served from 10a.m. Meet Christian Aid staff, including a speaker who has visited CA projects in Brazil. NEW WORKER WITH OLDER PEOPLE Congratulations to Claire Brooks who has been appointed as the new CTBB Worker with Older People.  She is an experienced social worker, currently working for the Alzheimer’s Society.  We look forward to welcoming her into her new role.  She begins on April 4.  Sue

SHEFFIELD POEM-A-THON 2nd April, 10am – 6pm at The Art House, S1 4HJ. FREE ENTRY. 48 poets will each read for 8 minutes throughout the day raising money for ASSIST.  Audience members can join at any time. There will be refreshments, a bookstall and information about ASSIST. Isobel Bowler
