CONGRATULATIONS:

Hannah Dawson and Joe Speed are getting married here at St Mark’s at 1pm on Saturday 13th August. They would love to welcome any members of the congregation to join them for the service and tea and cake to celebrate. Hannah Dawson

Alistair Sutcliffe and Elisabeth Rutherford are getting married in St Bene’t’s Church, Cambridge at noon THIS SATURDAY. They would be delighted to welcome any members of the congregation (who find themselves in Cambridge!) to join them for the service and celebratory drinks.  Do please hold them in your prayers.  Alistair Sutcliffe

PRAY FOR THE  CLIMATE The monthly prayer for the climate is moving from the 1st day of the month to the 1st Thursday of the month. It will be incorporated into the 12 o’clock Holy Communion. Therefore the August Pray for the Climate will be THIS THURSDAY at 12 o’clock Communion in the Lady Chapel. Michael Bayley

BROOMHALL GALA will take place on Saturday 13th August.  There will be activities and tea / coffees / cakes at the Broomhall Centre between 1.00pm and 4.00pm.  If you would like help in any way, please contact Elizabeth Draper at elizdraper504@btinternet.com Most of all though, please come along and support it and bring your friends.  Sue

 

RAINBOW WEEKEND

Following our presence at Sheffield Pride yesterday, TODAY we continue with….

  • 10am service our Guest preacher is Jayne Ozanne, chair of Accepting Evangelicals, Reader in Oxford Diocese and member of General Synod
  • Bring and ShareBBQ and games on the green All welcome. Bring your own meat/veg option for the BBQ.

‘HANDY PERSON’ NEEDED: the Church at St John’s and the Ranmoor parish centre have a vacancy for a handyperson to work up to 20 hours on set days per week at a rate of between £8-£10 per hour depending upon experience. The work involves low level maintenance and upkeep at both the church and the parish centre. HELPING ASYLUM SEEKERS It is good to have asylum seekers within our congregation. We are looking for more volunteers who can help with signposting people to appropriate sources of help and in other ways. Training and support are available.  Please contact David Price  davidprice2@googlemail.com

 

MULTIFAITH CHAPEL & LIBRARY The next lunchtime event will be tomorrow at Burngreave Ashram, with an invitation to bring artwork or poetry to share.  11.00am – 2.30pm, and includes a vegetarian meal.  For more information see the poster in the foyer. Anne P

HARVEST FESTIVAL We will again be selling preserves to support Christian Aid, so all you wonderful bottlers please get picking, pickling, preserving, and jam- and chutney-making ready for Harvest Festival on 18th September. There are jars in the vicarage garage if you’re short. Have fun! International Committee 

ARE YOU FREE SOMETIMES ON THURSDAYS? We now have the Communion Service (followed by coffee/chat ) at 12 and know of people who would like to attend but need transport. If you could help them and us, by joining a rota please contact Sarah C.  Thanks.

INTERNATIONAL FELLOWSHIP is taking a break for the summer during August and September, and hopes to return with renewed vigour in the Autumn when the new students arrive. Many thanks to Wu-Long for his wonderful cooking and hosting at our last meeting. More information from Helen Hillman 258 4241

NADIA BOLZ-WEBER, Lutheran pastor from Colorado, will be speaking here at St Mark’s on her whistle-stop tour of the UK.  Thursday 1 September, 7:00pm for 7.30pm. You can add your name to the waiting list via a link on the St Mark’s website (best way). If you are having difficulties please ring the Church Office. Register now for the best chance of getting a waiting list place. She has opened up new venues so we anticipate some tickets may be returned…

LIZ ANSON SABBATICAL Liz is taking a short break from her duties as Night Service Chaplain but don’t be surprised if you see her in the congregation from time to time! Sue

NEW GROUPS:

Reading the Story Janet Morley is putting together a bible reading group for ordinary readers that will focus on the poignant human stories of the Old Testament, reacting personally to what we hear and exploring the impact of the stories on our culture. Please see the flyers at the back of church.  Janet Morley

Logos – a new group for members of St Mark’s who would like to expand their knowledge of the Bible in a small discussion group.  The group will meet monthly starting on the third Friday in September at 7.30pm in the Vicarage and will begin by exploring John’s Gospel with the help of Ian Wallis.  If you’d like to know more or are interested in joining, contact Mark, mark.newitt@gmail.com.

AFRICAN CHILDREN’S CHOIR
LIV village was created to rescue and restore children who are vulnerable and orphaned  in Durban, South Africa. This is a story of hope and faith performed by 22 of the children from the village. Come and hear the choir perform their inspiring and amazing story – LIV The Journey – on Monday 8th August, 7pm at Birkdale School (School Hall). S2 FOOD BANK trip to Cleethorpes

Sheffield Taxi Drivers have offered their services again, participants have started booking, but raising the £3k-£4k to achieve last summer’s success will be a challenge.  The partnership with groups in Broomhill made a big difference last year – please help in whatever way you can, including fund-raising events.  To donate go to their Facebook page at http://m.gofund.me/28arg84 or pick up a donation form at the back of church.
