ARCHER PROJECT AT HARVEST Instead of collecting for the S6 Foodbank we are collecting food and toiletries for the Archer Project THIS WEEK.   There is a complete list of their needs at the back of church. Thank you. Sue

SNOWDROP CLOTHES SWAP EVENING is being held on Friday 21st October in aid of the Snowdrop Project, which exists to empower survivors of human trafficking.  We are asking for donations of unwanted clothes in good condition from October, so people can come along on the evening, make a donation and find something to take away. WELCOME TO ALL NEW AND RETURNING STUDENTS! There’s lots going on over the coming weeks for students. For the next two Wednesdays (21 and 28 September) from 7:30pm in the upper lounge we have two relaxed events where you can put your feet up during freshers week, with pizza making and some low intensity games. There are also some Sunday meals going on (lunch at 12pm NEXT SUNDAY and 9 Oct, plus a light meal at 5pm on 2 Oct, after which Paul Blomfield MP comes to discuss some important issues). ACROSS THE ROOF OF THE WORLD: FROM NEPAL TO TIBET AND BEIJING I will be showing slides of my recent trip through Nepal and Tibet and on into China THIS FRIDAY at 7.00pm in the church lounge.  There will be a collection in aid of PHASE, which does valuable medical work in rural communities in Nepal.  It will also be a sort of belated 70th birthday celebration so there will be refreshments.  All very welcome. ANNE PADGET has been given the opportunity to develop her creativity with Chorus UK and so has resigned from her post as Church Administrator from the end of October.  We wish her every success in her future career!  In the meantime, while we recruit her replacement, we will need some voluntary support in the church office.  If you think you could offer a day or two (with training) please have a word with Sue or Sarah.  Thank you!

YORKSHIRE HISTORIC CHURCHES TRUST are joining us from 10.30am to 3.30pm on Saturday 29 October for A Day at St Mark’s about the life and work of George Pace, the architect of this church. There will be guided tours of the church and a Newsnight style interview with Peter Pace, George’s son and biographer. Admission: £15 to cover coffee, lunch, tea and lectures. LIFE AND DEATH MATTERS CAFE continues THIS TUESDAY and is back in the church lounge.  It is a new venture meeting on Tuesday mornings between 10.30am and 12noon.  It is a safe, open and respectful place where people can talk about all matters relating to life and death.  All are welcome.  Jane Padget

READING THE STORY is a monthly group to hear key stories of the Old Testament and explore their impact on us and our culture. At our recent well-attended taster session we agreed to meet as a general rule on the second Friday of the month, omitting March and April to avoid Lent/Easter. The next session, on Friday 14 October in the church (not the vicarage), will be about the first seven chapters of the book of 1 Samuel (Eli, Hannah, the boy Samuel and the Ark of the Covenant). Readers should also look at the birth narratives in Luke 1-2 (especially 1:39-56). Janet Morley

TAIZE RETREAT IN SHEFFIELD
