TAIZE RETREAT IN SHEFFIELD

THIS WEEKEND 14 – 16 October Workshops, Taizé prayer and silence. For 18 – 35 yr olds. Taking place from the Friday evening until Sunday afternoon with Saturday evening prayer at Sheffield Cathedral at 7:30pm. All ages invited.  tinyurl.com/zg8hlde or see to Mark Ansell

READING THE STORY is a monthly group to hear Old Testament stories and explore their impact on us & our culture.  THIS FRIDAY in the upper room the next session, is about the first seven chapters of the book of 1 Samuel (Eli, Hannah, the boy Samuel and the Ark of the Covenant). Readers should also look at the birth narratives in Luke 1-2.  Janet Morley

MARK McCOMBS will be on sabbatical for October and November, back for Christmas and off for January.  We wish him every success as he concentrates on his studies.  We welcome Fraser Wilson as his stand-in durin g this time. Sue

ALL SOULS Service of Thanksgiving and Remembrance for loved ones who have died, will be held on Sunday 30 October at 6pm.  There is a list at the back of church for the names of those you would like to hear read out loud.

ECUMENICAL SERVICE to celebrate the signing of the Sheffield Methodist — Anglican Covenant. THIS TUESDAY at 7.30pm St Andrew’s Psalter Lane.  The document will be signed by Bishop Peter and Rev Gill Newton and witnessed by guests including the Lord Mayor, ecumenical, civic and interfaith representatives. Everyone is welcome.

GOOD WISHES TO Kim Willis, Jonathan Williamson and Cath Williamson as they start various training courses, Kim for ordination, Jonathan for Reader ministry.  Please hold them in your prayers.  Sue and Sarah

BROOMHALL AGM is happening on Tuesday 18th October, 7.00pm – 9.00pm at the Broomhall Centre.  All are welcome to attend.  Please see the poster in the foyer for more details. Sue

CAR PARK For those who use the car park during the week, the code for the barrier padlock will be changing at 5.00pm TOMORROW.  This is going to happen periodically to prevent mis-use of the car park.  If you wish to know the new code, please speak to Sue, Sarah or Anne.

SOUP RUN Any donations of tins of soup and of baked beans (with sausages or not) gratefully received. Feel free to have a chat with any soup run supervisor, if you want to know more. Many thanks. Gary

WORLD FOOD DAY is NEXT SUNDAY and the day before is the launch of the End Hunger UK campaign.

The 10am All Age Eucharist will be followed by a simple lunch – please stay –
we hope to raise funds for the Broomhall Breakfast and Soup Run.
BROOMHILL FESTIVAL Community Consultation: NOV 7 at 6pm Beacon at Broomhill.  The Festival Committee is conducting an open review with all who are interested in the future of the Festival.  St Mark’s is a key player.  If you want to see the festival continue, come along to the meeting or let Jane Padget know in advance: jane@evaconsulting.co.uk.  The current committee is NOT in a position to run another festival so this meeting is make or break.  Sue

ANNE PADGET has been given the opportunity to work with Chorus UK and has resigned her post as Administrator from the end of October.  We wish her every success!  In the meantime, we will need some voluntary support in the church office.  If you could offer a day or two please speak to Sue or Sarah.  Thanks!

YORKSHIRE HISTORIC CHURCHES TRUST are joining us from 10.30am to 3.30pm on Saturday 29 October for A Day at St Mark’s about the life and work of George Pace, the architect of this church. There will be tours of the church and an interview with Peter Pace, George’s son and biographer. Admission: £15 to cover coffee, lunch, tea and lectures. SHEFFIELD AND SOUTH YORKSHIRE RSCM DIOCESAN CHORAL FESTIVAL NEXT SUNDAY at 4.00pm at Sheffield Cathedral.  This Festive Choral Evensong will be sung by local church choirs including members of St, Mark’s. During the service RSCM Bronze and Silver awards will be presented by the Bishop of Doncaster.  Everyone welcome.

SNOWDROP CLOTHES SWAP EVENING is being held on Friday 21st October in aid of the Snowdrop Project, which exists to empower survivors of human trafficking.  We will be collecting unwanted clothes in good condition after the 10am service on today and 16th October, and taking donations on the night.
