NEW PARISH ADMINISTRATOR

Nicki Loomes will start on Monday 5 December.  We are fortunate that Anna S has agreed to continue until Christmas to ease the handover.  Thanks also to Anna Ryder who has been dealing with bookings.! Sue H.

LIFE AND DEATH MATTERS CAFE will continue for 2 more sessions before Christmas, on 29th Nov and 13th Dec and will resume on 10th  January. From 10.30am -12 in the lounge.  All are welcome.  Jane Padget

WELCOME BACK , SHAN!  My sabbatical has been a productive but challenging time, reviewing my vocations. With mixed feelings, I have left Bluebell Wood where I was chaplain for nearly 3 years. I will return to my role as Assistant Priest here reflecting on the questions Sue posed in her Stewardship Letter: what do I need from St Mark’s and how do I contribute to its life? Thank you for sharing this journey as we discern our vocation together. Shan

COME AND SING CAROLS! THIS Sat, 3rd December churches in Sheffield are singing carols for Christian Aid in Fargate. St Mark’s will be singing from 2.30-3.30pm. Meet and leave bags at the URC on Norfolk Street opposite the Crucible Theatre from 2.15. Use the back entrance, through the parking space for M&S deliveries. LIBERATING THEOLOGIES GROUP: This fortnightly Wednesday group has recommenced and is open to anyone wanting to study and discuss a variety of theologies. Next meeting on 7th December, from 11.45-1pm. Interested? Contact  Jeremy Clines on 0114 222 4098  University chaplain for more info.

READING THE STORY 7.30 on Friday 9 December, in the church lounge. New members always welcome. We will have some discussion of 1 Samuel ch 13-15 (read at home) before reading together ch 16-20, the narrative about the rise of David, the battle with Goliath, the love of Jonathan, and the jealousy of Saul. NEW PRAYER GROUPS 2017

1) An open Julian Prayer Group will start on Mon 16th Jan at 6.30pm. A contemplative space with extended silence at its heart. Every Monday night from 6.30-7.30pm in the Chapel, just come along when you can. For more info see Cath W or Sarah C.

2) Intercessory prayer group(s); clergy have had several requests and there may be potential for more than one group. Please contact Sarah C if you would like to be put in touch with interested others.  We’re aiming for a January start date.

CAROL SINGING around residential homes – Wednesday 14th December. Meet at Hallamshire Care Home at 5.30pm or join in along the way!  All welcome. Ending in Broomhill with drinks in a local hostelry Sue 07904 284853

 

STALLS AT THE BACK OF CHURCH:

TOILET TWINNING 2.4 billion people do not have a loo with all that means. After the service TODAY there will be a stall to learn more about twinning your toilet. On Sunday 4 December after Night Service there will be a toilet themed quiz with prizes and the chance to donate or learn more about toilet twinning. Come prepared! Dorothy Gray

CHRISTMAS CARDS The International Committee are selling Christmas cards and other novelties after the service TODAY and on 4th December on behalf of Oxfam and Traidcraft. Jennie Martin

CHRISTIAN AID has produced FREE Advent colouring candles to help us journey prayerfully through Advent. Pick up your card from the Christmas card table TODAY, with its reflections for each week of Advent. Helen Hillman

SEND A CHRISTMAS CARD to the PRIME MINISTER, and include a message asking her to reflect on the language she uses to speak about REFUGEES looking for a safe place to call home. Suggestions from Christian Aid for the message, which you can copy or write in your own words on your card, will be available on the Christmas card table next Sunday 4th December. Helen Hillman
