Weekly Update – 16th April 2017

APCM The Annual Parochial Church Meetings will take place NEXT SUNDAY at 11.15am after a shorter 10.00am Eucharist.  These will be followed by a Bring & Share Lunch, to which all are welcome. There is a sign-up sheet at the back of the church Sue / BrionyPCC 2017-2018 At our APCM we will be electing PCC members for the next year. The PCC makes decisions on a broad range of issues affecting church life and helps to shape the vision and strategy of what we do at St Mark’s, so we’re keen to invite people of all ages and stages of life to stand for election. Nomination Forms are at the back – please put them in the box provided.  Current PCC members are happy to chat to you informally if you’d like to know more about what is involved. Sarah Moore

 

CHURCHWARDEN As many of you will be aware, I will be stepping down as Churchwarden from April to focus on my studies. I have found this to be an incredibly rewarding role at what has been a challenging but exciting period for St Mark’s Sarah Moore

 

SHEFFIELD CARERS CENTRE The Board of Trustees for the Centre will need a new Treasurer from Summer 2017. If you have good accountancy skills and are interested, please email Rosie – rosiehunt@hotmail.co.uk. Many thanks.

 

THANK YOU to all those who have helped with our Holy Week events and services and who have prepared the church so beautifully for our Easter celebrations. Sarah, Sue and Shan RESURRECTION PRAYER STATION continuing our theme of pilgrimage beyond Lent into the Easter season. This is an opportunity for all ages to encounter faith in an alternative  tangible, meaningful, experiential, and reflective way. Shan

 

JULIAN PRAYER GROUP The silent prayer group meets every Monday night from 6.30-7.15pm in the Chapel but not on Bank Holiday Mondays ie we will NOTmeet on the 17th April. New members are always welcome, no regular commitment needed.

 

WELCOME CENTRE FOR REFUGEES City of Sanctuary are appealing for pledges of £55,000 by 19 April for a new Welcome Centre for asylum seekers and refugees in the city centre.  The Home Donations Committee is considering a contribution from St Mark’s funds. In addition, members of the congregation may wish to  contribute individually to this important appeal. NEW GROUPS After Easter we hope to develop groups to have oversight of the areas of study/learning and liturgy/worship. These will include PCC members and other people who are interested. If you would like to be part of one of these groups please see Sue/ Sarah

1ST MAY- SHEFFIELD MAY DAY TREK registration is now open. 2 routes of 6 and 11 miles leaving St Luke’s Lodge Moor from 9:30am. All money raised supporting Christian Aid and CAFOD’s response to the refugee crisis and other projects around the world. To register email pfurbey@christian-aid.org Paul FurbeyCHRISTIAN AID WEEK this year is May 14-20th, which will soon be upon us! Many thanks to those who have already agreed to help with the house to house collection in the parish. This is a good way to witness to our commitment, as Christians and as members of St. Mark’s, to supporting the poorest communities in God’s world. PLEDGE APPEAL FOR 2017 – We are blessed to have received promises for extra giving this year of approximately £7,700 (including recovered tax) towards our preferred target of £9,900.  We still hope to receive further promises as some church members are yet to respond.  Consequently, if you have not done so, please return your pledge form as soon as possible (even if you are unable to increase your giving).  Spare Pledge Appeal packs including a pledge form are available in the foyer.  Thank you.  David Ryder. CRC SPRING CONFERENCE On Saturday 29th April Val Webb is returning to lead a day on Memories Metaphor Myth: talking of God in the 21st century addressing the key issue of how we credibly talk about (and to) God. John Schofield MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS DAY The Diocese of Sheffield’s first Awareness Day (formerly known as Study Day) of 2017 is due to take place on Saturday, 6th May, 2017 at The Minster Church of All Saints Rotherham and applications to attend are warmly invited.

BROOMHALL CENTRE MANAGEMENT BOARD

Is looking for skills and expertise:

1. To shadow/support our treasurer/finance officer Jeremy Ritchie.

2 Management support for the Homework Club, to include recruitment and light supervision of a new worker, updating our policies especially around safeguarding, meeting with a “reference group” (from volunteers, parents and older children) once a term to reflect on any problems and develop new ideas. This could involve more than one person. Jillian Creasy
