BROOMHILL METHODIST CHURCH. The congregation of The Beacon, Broomhill is grateful for our thoughts and prayers at this time. They will continue to gather for worship on Sundays until the end of August and then members will join another congregation.  The building is being kept on by the Methodist Circuit and there will continue to be a group meeting on Thursday mornings to which all are welcome. I am in contact with them about future ideas.  Sue H 

LOUNGE DECORATION In the coming weeks the Lounge will be out of action for decorating, new carpet and curtains.  The Upper Room is booked every day in August for Opera on Location rehearsals (see below for ticket opportunity!). If you need to use a room please contact the office. Sarah R

OPERA TICKETS! Opera on Location are currently rehearsing at St Mark’s and have given us 2 tickets to see La Traviata in Waterstone’s in Orchard Square on 22 Aug at 7.15pm.  Please place sealed bids for tickets to raise funds for St Mark’s in red box at rear of church.  Sarah R 

VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITIES 

– Broomhill Festival is looking for committee members with skills and ideas to offer this successful event.  We particularly need a Treasurer. Speak to me or contact the church office if you’d like more information. Frances Gray 

-Broomhall Centre needs a Treasurer URGENT half a day a week, to undertake all accounts, payroll and other duties. A great opportunity to help in our community. Please contact Sarah R in the office if you’d like more information.  Sue

-Soup Run need new volunteers for the Saturday evening soup run, a 1 in 5 weekend commitment from 5.30pm-8pm on a Saturday making sandwiches/drinks and handing them out in town.  If you’re interested, please email office@stmarkssheffield.co.uk Rosie Hunt

-Do you sell on eBay? If you would like to help raise funds for St Mark’s by selling some unneeded items on eBay please contact me in the office.  Sarah R

INTERNATIONAL COMMITTEE are meeting at 7.30pm tomorrow, 19th August to discuss distribution of money to charities we support. We want to represent the views of the congregation so please let us know your thoughts about this area of St Marks ministry. Shan and Dilys   

A GLOBAL CLIMATE STRIKE is being organised by young people for Fri 20 Sept to wake up our politicians and those in power to take the decisive action to counter the climate emergency.  Sheffield details not yet announced but put the date in your diary and keep an eye out for details. TAIZE ‘We are one body’ a weekend of Taizé style prayer, workshops, food and building community at Wesley Hall, Crookes from 11-13th October. ORGANISTS David Willington is taking a much-deserved break.  Thank you to Paul Hudson and Peter Heginbotham for playing while he is away.

GREENBELT Our good wishes to all who are preparing to go to Greenbelt Christian Arts Festival over the Bank Holiday weekend.  There is usually quite a crowd from St Mark’s.  This is a great opportunity for enjoying bands and hearing stimulating talks where politics and activism are welcomed.  We look forward to hearing about it afterwards!
