We join our voice to the many who have already expressed horror and grief at the most recent acts of violence perpetrated by terrorist groups – not just in this country but also around the world. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all those affected most deeply by these atrocities, especially the many injured and bereaved. We long for signs of peace and the breaking down of barriers of fear and mistrust, wherever they exist. We will continue to work for peace, justice and reconciliation.
The following prayer is from the Church of England and its sentiments will be shared by many people worldwide who long to live in peace.
A Prayer for Peace
We pray for peace in our communities this day.
We commit to you all who work for peace and an end to tensions,
and those who work to uphold law and justice.
We pray for an end to fear,
for comfort and support to those who suffer.
for calm in our streets and cities,
that people may go about their lives in safety and peace.
In your mercy, hear our prayers,
now and always. Amen.
