LIGHTS OF HOPE  As the nights draw in and lockdown restrictions increase, we invite you to pause with us every Thursday at 7pm and make space for hope by placing a light in your window. As you place your light, you may wish to say: “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”  (John 1.5 ESV)

THANK YOU TO JAMES for all you have done in your role as pastoral care co-ordinator over the last 8 months. Despite the challenges of lock down, James embraced getting to know people and greatly assisted the team in facilitating and delivering pastoral care to our congregation and beyond. I’m pleased that alongside taking on the role of churchwarden, he feels able to continue to be part of the group involving St John’s and St Mary’s exploring how we can support individuals and carers living with dementia but he will no longer be able to be the pastoral care co-ordinator. Please pray for James in his new role, and the pastoral care team as we seek to find someone to undertake this vital role.  Shan

PRIVATE PRAYER IN ST MARK’S We are pleased that individuals (& households) are still able to attend pre-booked quiet prayer in St Mark’s. PCC DECISIONS – following our APCM the PCC had a good discussion about whether it felt right to keep church open while Sheffield is in Tier 3.  We decided that our assessment of risk is strong, that no one is being encouraged to come into the building if it is safer for them to stay at home and our Zoom Services will continue to support worship.  The choir will no longer be singing in the building during services, but we will continue to make it possible for them to record music for worship for as long as that remains viable.  The church remains open for pre-arranged private visits.  Our current pattern of services will continue for the time being, please see the website and Friday emails for details. Church is open, in different ways, to accompany you through this difficult time.  Keep well and keep in touch.  We are in this together, with love. Sue

RE-CYCLING PLEA  In preparation for future children’s provision we would be very grateful if you could save your foil milk bottle tops and mince/apple pie cases and round camembert/brie cheese boxes! Please contact me to arrange collection – thank you! Hannah Jones

MARK’S MESSENGER Subscribers should now have had an email with the November edition – please let me know if you haven’t received this and are expecting to.  Did you know that there is a massive back catalogue of editions as far back as 2011!! online too – why not have a browse –   Sarah R

COVID-19 TRACK & TRACE Following Government guidance St Mark’s now has QR codes available for checking in when you visit.  To find out more information about how these work, and to download the App to your phone please visit this page on our website.  If you’d like more details please contact the office.  Sarah R

VOLUNTEERS STILL NEEDED FOR TECH TEAMS – A FRIEND OR NEIGHBOUR?  As we continue to develop our worship both online and in the building, we would like to grow the teams who have been making this possible. If you, or someone you know, are confident with technology and would like to help with Zoom or with the sound desk, please email [email protected]. Role descriptions are available here. Cate

SERMONS AND SO MUCH MORE Did you know that you can find a whole back catalogue (back as far as 2010!) of Sermons from St Mark’s to read online? Visit to have a browse! Sarah R

WE ARE PRAYING FOR YOU – Each week during morning and evening prayer, the clergy and pastoral care team pray for each one of you. If you have a specific prayer request for the pastoral care team or for intercessions at services, please let us know by e-mailing [email protected], or by contacting one of the clergy. Specific requests will remain on the intercessory prayer list for 4 weeks. If there is a need for the request to remain in the prayers for longer, please have a conversation with one of the clergy team. Thank you. Shan

A FAIRER CHRISTMAS? Unfortunately it is not possible to have the usual Christmas card stall in church this year, but Good Taste – the Sheffield Fair Trade Shop in Broomhill have advent calendars, and Christmas cards from Tearfund and Traidcraft, and will deliver them locally if you are not able to get into the shop to pick them up.

All the Christmas items and other gifts, Fairtrade chocolate, food etc are available through the new webshop from Good Taste by following this link

Good Taste will make a donation of 5% of all online, email and phone orders to your choice of one of their 5 charities. Further information can be found on the Charities page of the Good Taste website

The web shop is new and as yet only includes a small selection of the things available. Please get in touch with Jenny Coleman if there is anything else you would like by phoning 0114 4381428 or email [email protected]
