Notices for w/c 23 May

Do read to the end, not all new notices are at the beginning!

SARAH ROUSSEAU If you would like to send a greeting to add to a card for Sarah, please send a short message to Shan.  Sarah has brought so many gifts to her different roles here that it will be a hard task to replace her.  She says that she has enjoyed her work and will miss you all terribly but that it feels like the right decision to leave now.

I am enormously grateful to Jane Padget who has agreed to come into the office to check emails and keep on top of booking enquiries.  Please hold us all in your prayers as we consider the best way forward.  Thank you. Sue

CONGRATULATIONS to all who were baptized or confirmed in St Mark’s recently.  Please continue to pray especially for Alan, Arman, Behzad, Hadis, Saied and Saman, members of our congregation, and Clare, a member of St John, Ranmoor. Thank you to Cate for organising and hosting the Ascension Day service. The link below is a report about the service on The Church of England website under stories and features in the media and news section.

SUNDAY SERVICES and reopening for BOOKINGS

PCC met this week and affirmed that we want to open up the church for services and also for midweek groups and concerts.

We are preparing a questionnaire which will go out to everyone on our email list, asking for your input on service provision as we continue to plan for the future.  This is our opportunity to shape the church, in the context of our parish and Mission Area, so let’s take time to reflect and share our vision of what the church can be (rather than simply what it has been).

THIS SUNDAY – 23 May: PENTECOST

8am BCP Communion Service in church – all welcome, no bookings needed

10.30am – a joint service across the Mission Partnership at St John’s RanmoorGather at St John’s (no booking required) or via Zoom using St John’s zoom code (details in the Friday email) Enjoy a drink from the mobile coffee van outside St John’s after the service. Donations welcome.

Note, NO 10am Service at St Mark’s – we are joining with St John’s.

4pm Intergenerational Service on the Green celebrating Pentecost with a simple liturgy and some multisensory prayer stations. All are very welcome to join in! Let Jen know if you’d like to come but can’t walk around the Green because we could also bring the stations to where you sit. Jen Ryder;

7pm on Zoom – Bring & Share Service

30 May 8am on Zoom; 10am in church; 7pm night service on Zoom (Wholeness)

The pattern of services for June will be repeated over the summer months while we review and reflect and plan for the future.

More details in the Friday emails and on the website.  Sue

TO BOOK OR NOT TO BOOK FOR SUNDAY SERVICES?

It really helps our planning if you book in for services, however we appreciate that some people are missing out because they miss the deadline.  Numbers in the building are low so, if you would like to come on the day, without booking, please do.  You will be asked to leave your name and contact details and, if the capacity of the building or green has nearly been reached, you may be asked to wait until those who have already booked have taken their places.

If you can, please book places for yourself or your household/bubble by sending an e-mail to the church office by Thursday – you will receive confirmation by Friday evening.

The office email is not checked over the weekend.

THY KINGDOM COME 13-23 May – from Ascension Day to Pentecost there will be 11 inter-generational outdoor prayer stations spread out across our Mission Area. The prayer stations are part of the Thy Kingdom Come global initiative where the Church encourages us to explore mission and evangelism.  They can be found in the grounds of St John’s, Ranmoor and St Mark’s, Broomhill & Broomhall  Hannah & Lu

WRITE A POSTCARD TO BORIS JOHNSON – Faith groups are coming together to make some specific asks of the G7 talks. Faith voices are calling for a global green and just recovery from the pandemic and action on climate change. To bring about climate justice, we will need fair and just finance. As such, we are particularly calling for:

  1. An end to all use of public money to subsidise fossil fuels.
  2. New and additional sources of finance for climate-related loss and damage.

St Marks Environment Group encourage everyone to write a postcard to Boris Johnson at Number 10 Downing St, London SW1A 2AA, asking him to press for the above, or whatever you feel are the most urgent world climate issues ahead of G7 on June 11th. We are working with churches all over the country to give the same messages and show our concern for action. Let’s inundate him!

Postcards of the Church are available to pick up in the vicarage porch, or you can use your own. If you use social media – post a picture of yourself with your postcard and/or email it to [email protected]. More about the G7 and its purpose and importance can be found here:
