4pm, Sun 25th April – PRAYERFUL AFTERNOON ADVENTURES ON THE GREEN We continue our tradition of occasional gatherings in the afternoon. As well as being more convenient for some families, it also enables other members of the ministry team and congregation to join us in a more intergenerational approach to worship. CHRISTIAN AID WEEK 10-16 MAY 2021 There are many options within the campaign this year and nothing is finalised until we see where the Covid restrictions are at the time. We will definitely be offering Christian Aid e-envelopes to the congregation via St Mark’s weekly newsletter and asking for volunteers to deliver ” DELIVER ONLY ENVELOPES ” in streets around the parish. We have not completely ruled out deliver and collect (if Covid allows at the time) by collectors who wish to do that, particularly on their own street.
We are hoping to organise a congregation accumulative John O’Groats to Land’s End sponsored walk and there will be a “Zoom Celebrity Bake Off” and anything else you might like to suggest!!
Please, please email me fundraising ideas and especially PLEASE offer to deliver envelopes. It can add to your Land’s End to John O’Groats target or even towards Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Service, there is no lower age limit as there is no collecting involved.

EILEEN STAMPER MEMORIAL LECTURE Those of you who remember Eileen will know she had 3 main passions: The Vacation Term for Biblical Studies, theological books and women’s involvement in ministry and teaching. This year, the Vacation Term have chosen to have an Eileen Stamper Memorial lecture in her memory. The lecture is entitled “Faith and doubt in Eastern Christian Interpretation of Scripture: The case of the Apostle Thomas” and the lecturer is Dr Mary Cunningham from the University of Nottingham. I think Eileen would have approved! Shan
PHILIP BOOTH – BBC RADIO 4 LISTENING PROJECT –As a result of my involvement with Radio Sheffield, I was asked to take part in a dialogue for the BBC Radio 4/British Library Listening Project, which pairs people up to have a discussion, which will then be kept as a sound archive at the BL. I was paired with a farmer from Northern Ireland and the general agenda was sexuality and religion – Keith, my opposite number had been brought up in the Salvation Army and like me has been involved in running a helpline, but specifically for farmers. The conversation lasted for 47 minutes, of which ten were broadcast on Radio 4 two and a half weeks ago. If you are interested, here is the link for the whole conversation: https://www.dropbox.com/t/bsmeSMRpLcm3VZXB Philip

MARK’S MESSENGER ONLINE The Messenger has worked well for most people as a virtual paper in lockdown. While we are continuing to produce print copies for those who need them – and for visitors and casual readers when lockdown is over – we have decided that in future most subscribers will continue to receive it by e-mail. If you are NOT on the subscriber list but would like to receive it, please email Sarah Rousseau at the office and she will add you to it. We will continue to offer the Messenger free of charge – but do consider making a donation (again, contact the office) – it’s an important part of our life as a community. Frances Gray

Once lockdown ends and it is safe to gather again, we will meet in church on a Monday evening at 6.30 pm. If you would like to integrate this form of prayer into your lifestyle, please e-mail or phone Shan. Shan@stmarkssheffield.co.uk Tel 07598 156817
