TO BOOK OR NOT TO BOOK FOR SUNDAY SERVICES?
It really helps our planning if you book in for services, however we appreciate that some people are missing out because they miss the deadline. As far as possible, please book places for yourself or your household/bubble by sending an e-mail to the church office by Thursday – you will receive confirmation by Friday evening. The office email is not checked over the weekend so whilst numbers in the building are low, if you decide to come on the day without booking, please do. You will be asked to leave your name and contact details and, if the capacity of the building or green has nearly been reached, you may be asked to wait until those who have booked have taken their places. We look forward to seeing you.
GINA CLAYTON’s FUNERAL Service will be here at St Mark’s on Saturday 26 June at 1.30pm for invited guests. To attend via Zoom please enter at 1.10 for 1.15pm using the following code: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/81596189204 Meeting ID: 815 9618 9204.
Known and loved by many for her commitment to legal support for refugees and asylum seekers through ASSIST and SYRLJ (South Yorkshire Refugee Law and Justice) Gina will be sorely missed. Her husband, Mike Fitter, is also well known to members of this community so please hold him in your thoughts and prayers at this time of sadness. Sue
ORDINATIONS – Please pray for those who will be ordained in Sheffield Diocese this weekend, especially those in Hallam deanery, Matthew Wood serving at St John Ranmoor and Matthew Lawes serving at Christ Church Fulwood who will be ordained priest, and Amy Hole who will serve at St Timothy Crookes and The Vine who will be ordained deacon.
WE MET AGAIN! – Thanks to the hard work of the festival committee, especially Frances Gray and Kathy Harbord, and a team of willing volunteers and contributers, Broomhill Festival 2021 was a resounding success. I’ve lost count of the number of people who have commented how lovely it was to safely meet up with people they have not seen over the last year. Truly an event by the community, for the community. Well done and many thanks. Shan, Sue and Cate.
ADMISSION OF CHURCHWARDENS – Dilys and James will be attending a service on Thursday 1st July at 7.30pm in Sheffield Cathedral which formally admits them to the role of church warden. Sadly, due to Coronavirus restrictions, none of us are able to attend as guests or supporters so please do hold them in your prayers as they declare that they will faithfully and diligently perform their duties within St Mark’s parish. Shan & Sue
Congratulations Rose Bridge!!
You may remember 11-year-old Rose’s illustration of ‘Birches, Wyming Brook’ which was used as the cover image for the October 2020 Messenger. Not only has it been accepted to be exhibited in London for the Royal Academy Young Person’s Summer Show, she has also won the prize for ‘most inspiring’ picture in her age group out of 33,000 submissions! As a prizewinner she will be invited to a special ceremony with the president of the RA as well as receiving a voucher for art materials and an RA art session for her school. Hannah

COULD YOU HELP?
- S6 Foodbank – The S6 Foodbank relies on our goodwill and support to enable them to give everyone referred to them a balanced and nutritious supply of foods. Although we are beginning to meet in church, we are not restarting as a collection point so please continue to donate money via their website or food via their other donation points. Thank you.
- Garage or workshop to rent? Dave Baillie is looking for a space in the near future to run his bicycle repairs. It would be fine if it is an unused garage that is part of someone’s house. Contact Dave on 0114 266 5160 or [email protected]
- St Mark’s Green mowing – Additional volunteers wanted please to join the mowing roster. We take it in turns to cut the grass with the church mowers, about 4 times a year. It’s great exercise that doesn’t involve a gym subscription fee(!) Please contact Martin on 07505 992922 or [email protected]
HOPE FOR THE FUTURE – As the UK approaches hosting COP26 in November, the world will be watching to see how we’re going to become a global leader on climate. This gives Hope for the Future a crucial opportunity to use this time when politicians will be more aware of environmental issues to take our asks to them and encourage action.
Hope for the Future are aiming to raise £10,000 over the month of June so that they can expand their work, train more people, and take the opportunity the next 6 months provides them on engaging politicians on climate change. Follow the link to support the Build Back Greener campaign
PCN HOSTING DOM CROSSAN – Many members of St Mark’s and the CRC will recall the conferences led by John Dominic Crossan, one of the world’s leading biblical theologians. He has agreed to answer submitted questions and have a conversation on a wide range of topics on Zoom at an evening organised by PCN Britain on Wednesday 21 July at 7.30 pm. You are invited to join them. There is a modest charge of £5 for the event and bookings can be made on this link:
