LIVING IN LOVE AND FAITH How do questions about identity, sexuality, relationships and marriage fit within the bigger picture of the good news of Jesus Christ? What does it mean to live in love and faith together as a Church? These are important questions which the C of E is looking at and will be debating over the next year. In our Mission Area there will be opportunities for doing the LLF course together (face to face or on Zoom) starting in the middle of September. This will be a good way of both studying the areas in question and contributing to the debate and getting to know one another better across the three churches. Look out for more details.     John Schofield

NEW DEAN OF SHEFFIELD ANNOUNCED –¬†The¬†new Dean of Sheffield will be the Revd Canon Abigail Thompson. The Dean heads up the ministry of Sheffield Cathedral, also undertaking diocesan and civic duties in the city and across the wider area. Abi has been in the Diocese of St Albans since February 2018 where she is currently the Acting Dean and Sub-Dean of St Albans Cathedral. Abi said: ‚ÄúSheffield Cathedral is the place where I was ordained deacon in 2006 and I got married here in 2010. I‚Äôve made vows here, I‚Äôve wept into the stone floor, I‚Äôve rejoiced¬†here¬†and I‚Äôve lit candles here for people I have loved and lost. I share these very personal connections with you because I know that I am only one of thousands of people who have experienced the deepest of emotions and sought sanctuary within these old walls. Sheffield Cathedral is a holy place because of the people who have come here to find peace, to¬†pray,¬†to worship and to seek the true and living God.¬†¬†

I am blessed and honoured and totally thrilled that this is the place where I will soon daily say my prayers and get to love and serve the people of this great city, this wonderful Cathedral and the whole Diocese of Sheffield.‚Ä̬†

ACCOMMODATION SEARCH FOR UNIVERSITY CHAPLAIN

The Anglican Chaplaincy Trust at the University of Sheffield are appointing an Anglican Chaplain (self-supporting), for a September start and are helping find suitable accommodation for a commuting arrangement.

The anticipated post-holder intends to live part-time in Sheffield and travelling here each week. Their preference is for either: i) a studio flat; ii) a small self-contained area in a larger home with shared kitchen as long as it is en-suite. They may, alternatively, consider lodging somewhere for 1-2 nights per week typically.

If anyone has any suggestions of suitable accommodation please contact the coordinating chaplain, Jeremy Clines ([email protected])¬†

CHURCH ARMY¬†have commissioned their¬†Research¬†Unit¬†to investigate how attenders in the Church of England have experienced church during the recent coronavirus lockdowns.‚ÄĮ¬†

As a prolonged season of restricted worship comes to an end, a new kind of church is being imagined and discussed ‚Äď locally and nationally.‚ÄĮOur‚ÄĮhope‚ÄĮfor this project is that it will‚ÄĮgather‚ÄĮand amplify the reflections and experiences of‚ÄĮordinary Church of England attenders ‚Äď those who‚Äôve thrived at online services, those who‚Äôve found it difficult, and those who‚Äôve started engaging with church for the¬†first time¬†during lockdown.‚ÄĮ‚ÄĮ¬†

Initial data collection for this research is being carried out via a survey which is open to all worshippers in the Church of England. Please click‚ÄĮhere‚ÄĮto take this ten-minute survey and add your story‚ÄĮto those already gathered.‚ÄĮWilling participants may‚ÄĮalso‚ÄĮbe given the opportunity to take part in further focus groups and interviews, giving them the chance to share their story in their own words and reflect in conversation with others.‚ÄĮ¬†

If you or someone you know would like to take the survey but finds it‚ÄĮdifficult to access‚ÄĮthe internet,‚ÄĮplease‚ÄĮemail or telephone the project researcher, David Lovell,‚ÄĮto‚ÄĮarrange delivery of one or more paper copies of the survey. David‚ÄĮcan be reached at:‚ÄĮ[email protected]‚ÄĮor on‚ÄĮ0114 252 7287‚ÄĮbetween 9am and 5pm.‚ÄĮ¬†

CAFOD have an online petition to Rishi Sunak to use this autumn’s spending review to provide the finance needed for a net zero strategy that meets the Governments pledge to cut emissions.   Sign the petition and pass the information on to others.
