Papers released to members of General Synod for their meeting in February include a report following three years of “conversations” about the Church of England’s future stance on sexuality. This report has created a sense of betrayal from within the LGBT+ community many of whom feel that they were invited to be vulnerable in the talks but were not properly listened to.
Here at St Mark’s we long for a truly diverse and open church, where all are affirmed for who they are and encouraged to seek the common good.
We lament with our sisters and brothers who feel rejected by the Church of England’s lack of understanding and encouragement.
We commit ourselves to working alongside all who seek equality within our Church.
We offer ourselves as companions on this journey, however lonely that path may feel.
We have applied to be on the Lesbian and Gay Christian Movement’s list of Visible Congregations and we urge our partner churches to do likewise.
We continue to pray that God’s will be done.
