PASSIONTIDE CHORAL SERVICE will take place at 6.00 pm on Palm Sunday, 13 April.  The service will incorporate the Requiem by Henry Walford Davies, first published in 1915 and composed “In Sacred Memory of all those who have fallen in the war.”  The service will also include a number of thematic organ devotions.  All welcome.

SHAN will be licensed as Chaplain to Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice and Assistant Priest of St Mark’s by Bishop Peter NEXT SUNDAY at 10.00 am.  Do come and show Shan your love and support for this development of her unique ministry.  All welcome to stay for lunch!

SHEFFIELD FESTIVAL OF SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING All events are free and listed on the website at www.scienceweeksy.org.uk/events/. Look out for re-enactments of the Von Guericke demonstration of atmospheric pressure at Kelham Island THIS AFTERNOON, and a lecture at the Weston Park Museum on chemical warfare echoing events in World War 1, a century ago. 

GOD-TALK is the title of Ian’s latest ‘Living thinking faith’ booklet.  Copies available on the card stall.  50p donation.

NEWS FROM THE VICAR Looking forward to being with you for Shan’s licensing on 23 March.  In the meantime, please continue to work together, to support one another and to welcome the stranger. Keep faith!

DURING IAN’S ABSENCE Mike Hunt, Gary Grief, and Sue Hammersley are immensely grateful for your support during Ian’s absence.  Please continue to contact all three of us with any concerns.

ALAN BIRCHALL’S funeral will take place here at 12 noon on Friday 21 March.  All welcome. Alan will be remembered by many at St Mark’s for his quiet loyalty and artistic talent. The altar frontal, used during the seasons of Christmas and Epiphany, was designed by him and will serve as a fitting memorial to his life and contribution to this church.

THANK YOU to everyone who supplied or purchased Fairtrade cakes last week.  £50 was raised and will be sent to Twin, a pioneer and leader of the fair trade movement, working to build better lives for the poorest and most marginalised in the trading chain.

ORGAN APPEAL UPDATE Following receipt of a further grant, the Appeal Fund is currently £103,000 and therefore our target of £100,000 has been exceeded! Further pledges/ donations are still welcome as any extra support will enable the £50,000 loan from the Church’s charity investment to be reduced.  Please send donations to our Treasurer, David Ryder. 

DIOCESE OF SHEFFIELD CENTENARY CELEBRATIONS 2014 marks 100 years of the Sheffield Diocese. There are several events. Please see the poster at the back and let Anne Padget know if you wish to attend any.

CHURCH ELECTIONS for Church-wardens and Parochial Church Councillors will take place at the Annual Parochial Church Meetings (see below).  Who would you like to serve as a Church-warden or represent you on the PCC? Are you willing to serve? Nomination forms can be found at the back of church, along with the box in which to put completed forms.

ANNUAL PAROCHIAL CHURCH MEETINGS will be held on Wednesday 9 April.  Cheese, biscuits and wine will be served from 6.30 pm with the meetings starting at 7.00 pm.  We will be reviewing the past year and looking forward to the next as well as electing two Churchwardens and up to 15 members of the Parochial Church Council.

DEANERY SYNOD Elections for Deanery Synod Reps will also be taking place at the APCM.  This is an important and worthwhile role, which includes voting for our General Synod Reps, and it can make a real impact on the decisions of the wider church.  Nomination forms and information are at the back, and / or speak to Anne Padget, Deanery Lay Chair.

ELECTORAL ROLL You need to be on the Roll in order to vote at the APCM or stand for one of the positions. If you are not on the Roll, please complete a form which is available at the back of Church and place it in the box provided. The Roll will be closed on 19 March until after the Annual Church Meetings. Peter Ryder, Electoral Roll Officer.

LAUNCH OF ST MARK’S GARDEN PROJECT 23 March. A chance to chat over vegetarian Sunday lunch, and then to get out your wellies and spades as a tree is planted to mark the launch of this exciting project. Come along to find out more!

GARDEN PARTY SAT 14 JUNE We are very grateful that Jane Padget and Briony Tayler have offered to co-ordinate this event. If you’d like to be part of this exciting extravaganza, we need volunteers to act as helpers and stallholders. SHEFFIELD CREDIT UNION will hold its AGM at the Circle, Rockingham Lane, on Thursday, 27 March 2014 with refreshments at 5.45 for a 6.00 p.m. start. St Marks has invested in the Credit Union as have several members of the congregation, and anyone is welcome to attend.

AUSTERITY DINNER at Shirley House Interfaith Centre at 6pm THIS THURSDAY.  A very simple meal to start, we will share thoughts about hunger from different faiths; guests are asked to bring contributions of tinned and dried foods for Firvale Foodbank.  No need to book – the more coming, the less food for each!
