1ST MAY- SHEFFIELD MAY DAY TREK registration is now open. 2 routes of 6 and 11 miles leaving St Luke’s Lodge Moor from 9:30am. All money raised supporting Christian Aid and CAFOD’s response to the refugee crisis and other projects around the world. SOUTH SUDAN AND EAST AFRICA FAMINE APPEAL Thanks to all who have contributed towards this, we have been able to send to Christian Aid £874.40, which will hopefully be in time to attract matched funding from the government. There’s still an opportunity to contribute to the fund through the bucket collections today and every Sunday until the end of Lent. Don’t forget to Gift Aid your donation if you can.

SHEFFIELD CARERS CENTRE The Board of Trustees for the Centre will need a new Treasurer from Summer 2017. If you have good accountancy skills and are interested, please email Rosie – rosiehunt@hotmail.co.uk. Many thanks.

100 YEARS YOUNG! Nellie Alker, Adrian’s mother, will be 100 years old on 26 April. Since this is a Wednesday Nellie will be at St Mark’s Lunch Club where we shall celebrate with cake and a drink. Rosalind has kindly said that if anyone would like to drop in to share that celebration at about 1pm they will be welcome although it would be helpful to let Rosalind know in advance. I have found this to be an incredibly rewarding role at what has been a challenging but exciting period for St Mark’s and would be happy to talk to anyone who is interested in taking on this position at the APCM. MARK’S MESSENGER Thank you toCarol Rowe, who has been one of the  Messenger editors since 2011but has now left the editing team. The May Messenger will be edited by Frances Gray, who would welcome articles.  If you are interested in joining the editing team, please contact Frances or David Price.

JULIAN PRAYER GROUP The silent prayer group has grown steadily in numbers since starting in January. We meet every Monday night from 6.30-7.15pm in the Chapel but not on Bank Holiday Mondays ie we will meet on the 10th but not on the 17th April. New members are always welcome, no regular commitment needed.

CHRISTIAN AID WEEK this year is May 14-20th, which will soon be upon us! Many thanks to those who have already agreed to help with the house to house collection in the parish. This is a good way to witness to our commitment, as Christians and as members of St. Mark’s, to supporting the poorest communities in God’s world. APCM The Annual Parochial Church Meetings will take place on SUNDAY 23 APRIL at 11.15am after a shorter 10.00am Eucharist.  These will be followed by a Bring & Share Lunch, to which all are welcome. There is a sign-up sheet at the back of the church Sue / BrionyPLEDGE APPEAL FOR 2017 – We are blessed to have received promises for extra giving this year of approximately £7,700 (including recovered tax) towards our preferred target of £9,900.  We still hope to receive further promises as some church members are yet to respond.  Consequently, if you have not done so, please return your pledge form as soon as possible (even if you are unable to increase your giving).  Spare Pledge Appeal packs including a pledge form are available in the foyer.  Thank you.  David Ryder. Is looking for skills and expertise:

1. To shadow/support our treasurer/finance officer Jeremy Ritchie.

2 Management support for the Homework Club, to include recruitment and light supervision of a new worker, updating our policies especially around safeguarding, meeting with a “reference group” (from volunteers, parents and older children) once a term to reflect on any problems and develop new ideas. PCC 2017-2018 At our APCM we will be electing PCC members for the next year. The PCC makes decisions on a broad range of issues affecting church life and helps to shape the vision and strategy of what we do at St Mark’s, so we’re keen to invite people of all ages and stages of life to stand for election. MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS DAY The Diocese of Sheffield’s first Awareness Day (formerly known as Study Day) of 2017 is due to take place on Saturday, 6th May, 2017 at The Minster Church of All Saints Rotherham and applications to attend are warmly invited.
