WHO DO YOU SAY I AM?  During October we invite everyone to wear a name badge.  This isn’t just for the benefit of newcomers but also for those of us who can’t remember names terribly well.  Please participate!  You might also like to use the following as a bit of fun and to help us open up new conversations:

Find someone who came to St Mark’s as a student and then stayed around…Thanks! Sue

Work on the memorial garden Careful maintenance work on the Memorial garden has just begun. Using some money from a legacy, we will be doing two phases of work. In October we will be clearing weeds and taking out some of the very old roses and unhealthy Box hedge. We will then review what’s left and in Spring think about new planting. If there are plants in the Memorial garden that are particularly important to you, or if you want to know more about the work, do come and talk to me.

ORGAN RECITALOur next Organ Recital will be THIS THURSDAY with Peter Heginbotham of St. Matthew’s, Carver Street at 8.00pm.  Free, with a retiring collection.  All welcome.

“RE-IMAGINING CHURCH: No Longer Male and Female” is the next CRC conference THIS SATURDAY.  It is being put on in association with WATCH (Women and the Church).  Now that we have women bishops, some may consider the journey to be over.  It is, however, just beginning.  Three women, Kathy Galloway, Emma Percy and Jelly Morgans, invite us to engage in conversation. Together we will dream dreams and explore strategies for the radical transformation of the church at every level and across denominations so that it more adequately reflects and embodies a ‘genderful’ God.  Please see the booking forms on the CRC stall for more info and to book your place.

ASSIST AGM Tuesday 27 Oct, 6.30 –

ONE WORLD WEEK begins today (18th – 25th Oct).  The theme this year is Hope in Action and NEXT SUNDAY after the Service we’re being invited to sign cards supporting Agri-ecology…

ECO-CONGREGATION ASSESSORS’ VISIT David Hughes and a colleague will be visiting St Mark’s NEXT SUNDAY morning to review what progress we have made in the last few years towards the goal of bringing care for the environment into our worship, management of the church and grounds, and work with the community.  We hope to renew our status as an Eco-Congregation.  We need to show that this is important to many of us, not just a few.  After the 10 o’clock service David would like to talk informally to members of the congregation and then meet members with a specific interest in this area.  Please come and share your ideas in one of these formats.

THURSDAY COMMUNION is being cancelled for one week only on October 29 as Sue and Tim are both off duty for Half Term.  It will resume on Thursday 5 November.

GARDENING MORNING There is a lot of work to do at this time of the year in tidying the church grounds (sweeping leaves, for example). Please join us on Saturday 31 October, 9.30 – 1.00. If possible, please bring tools such as rakes, garden brushes, etc. Tea and coffee provided!

IT’S A BIT LIVELY OUTSIDE is a play about the Sheffield blitz being performed at the University Drama Studio from 29th to 31st October at 7.30.
