Weekly Update ~ 21st June 2015

THURSDAY COMMUNION Please note that there will be no Holy Communion or discussion group this coming Thursday as the interviews for the next incumbent will be taking place in church that day.  Thursday Communion will NOT take place during the month of August and the DISCUSSION GROUP has been cancelled until September.  We’re thinking about how to relaunch this group in the autumn, if anyone has any ideas, please contact me – sue@stmarkssheffield.co.uk. Thank you!

A BIG THANK YOU to everyone who contributed to the Garden Party, especially to the organisers. It was a splendid effort which raised a lot of money, most of which will go towards the Festival charities.

BROOMHILL FESTIVAL CLOSES today after nearly 50 events, many of which were hosted at St Mark’s. A huge thank you to the small band of dedicated volunteers who made sure each event was properly organised and staffed.

And a heartfelt thank you to Jane Padget in her first year as Chair of the Festival Committee.  Well done Jane!  Time for a well-earned rest!

THIS YEAR’S FESTIVAL BANNER was designed and crafted by Margot Fox with the support of many volunteers from the church.

WELCOME TEAMS We are looking for some people to join our existing Welcome Teams for the new rota that will come out in the next few weeks. This is a fantastic opportunity to meet new (and not so new!) members of the church and contribute to an important part of our ministry. Please speak to Sarah Moore for more information.

SERVERS We are looking for more people to be servers.  This involves carrying the cross or one of the acolyte candles, and helping the minsters with worship during the 10.00am Sunday morning Eucharist.   If you would like to know more about being in the sanctuary during worship and what it would mean to serve the church in this way, please speak to Anne in the office.

WW1 MEMORIAL PLAQUE This will be placed on the wall of the chapel during the week. The date has been chosen to coincide with the anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Versailles on 28 June 1919 which formally ended WW1, exactly five years after the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand.

BOTTLE TOPS Thanks to everyone who has been collecting plastic bottle tops for Diabetes UK. The response has been amazing. Sadly, they have decided not to receive any more because they are snowed under and do not have the manpower to sort them, so I won’t be able to take any more. Carol Rowe
