LENT SERMON SERIES During Lent our preachers have been invited to enter into conversations with members of the congregation about their experiences of faith and church.  I hope that this will be an opportunity to learn from one another and value the diversity of this rich community.  Sue

LENT LUNCH Last week was fabulous with an overwhelming number of people staying.  Thank you to all involved.  The next Lenten Lunch will be after the 10am service on 13th March.  Again, we invite you to join us for a simple meal of soup and bread and a chance to be in community and enjoy each other’s company during this season of Lent. PIGEONHOLES Please note that at the back of church, underneath the library shelves, there are pigeonholes, labelled alphabetically.  These are for communications with members of the congregation.  Please check your pigeonhole regularly to see if there is anything there for you. Anne

PARIS CLIMATE NEGOTIATIONS RESPONSE Nick Clegg has released a brief public statement on the Paris climate negotiations at the request of the Hope for the Future campaign. Those who are interested can read the statement under the ‘news’ section at www.hftf.org.uk‘.

FOLK FOR REFUGEE CONCERT A group of Sheffield folk performers are holding a concert on Saturday 9 April at 7.30pm at St. Mark’s Church in aid of the refugee work of the British Red Cross. CARETAKER We are delighted to congratulate Tim Moore on his appointment as caretaker. This means the church will be open in the afternoons again, and that the building and grounds will be properly cared for.

JESUS:HEALER & EXORCIST Ian Wallis will be visiting St. Mark’s again when he will be the speaker at the next CRC conference on Saturday 16 April.  He will be addressing questions about Jesus’ reputation as a healer and exorcist, and the implications of this for the sick, oppressed and marginalised.  More details and booking forms at the back of church on the CRC stall or ask John Schofield or Anne Padget   


It is our privilege to be hosting a significant event during IAW this year, on Friday 18th March, with speakers from different faith communities and food from different cultures.  Please take flyers and invite your friends and neighbours.  This is an open event with the Council of Mosques.  If you are willing to make a dessert please write on the flipchart at the back. All welcome.

ELECTORAL ROLL The electoral roll is due to be revised at the end of March.  If you are not already on it and wish to be able to vote at the APCM please complete a form at the back of church and return it to Peter Ryder by Sunday 20th March.

FRIENDSHIP CLUB Wednesdays in the church lounge at 1.30pm. 2 March: Chris and Amanda:  “Four hands, one piano“. All welcome. Modest charge.

BROOMHILL WARD BOUNDARIES are changing in April and becoming Broomhill and Sharrow Vale (Broomhall will come under the same Ward). The Ward Councillors would like to invite groups to the Broomhall Centre on Wednesday 9th March, 4pm – 7pm to share information about activities and promote volunteering. It is an open event for the whole community. Please see the poster in the foyer.  Sue

SOUL STORIES: THE CHURCH AND LGBT+ & LIBERATING THEOLOGIES The Multi-faith Chaplaincy is launching two new reading and discussion groups. One group is for people to hear and share stories about the experience of identifying as LGBT+ in the church. The other is a chance to explore liberating theologies. If you do pay income tax but have not yet done so, will you please ensure that the yellow Gift Aid form is returned as soon as possible to Judith Pitchforth so that we can comply with the new HMRC requirements. ROSALIND MASON, daughter of the late Ernest Slater, would like to thank the congregation of St. Mark’s Church for their prayers and support since her accident eighteen months ago.  She is now learning to walk again and is looking forward to making a full recovery. Margaret Slater
