Weekly Update ~ 28th June 2015

JULY 5 FUNDRAISING DAY for the Parish Weekend Bursary Fund. All Age Service, followed by food and games on the Green, Treasure Hunt, Afternoon Tea, and Night Service.  Come along to all or some of the day! NOEL will be helping us to experience Communion with a Bring and Share meal at Night Service.  Please bring contributions to be shared during worship.

ENNEAGRAM WORKSHOP IN AID OF PARISH WEEKENDAfter the success of the last one, there is another Enneagram workshop planned on 18 July or 17 October. Come along and have fun and learn! PARISH WEEKEND – SOME PLACES STILL AVAILABLEThank you to all who have already booked.  There are still places available if you’re thinking of coming.  It promises to be a wonderful weekend together at the Hayes Conference Centre, Swanwick, on 18-20 September 2015!  Please see the flyers at the back.


WELCOME TEAMS We are looking for some people to join our existing Welcome Teams for the new rota that will come out in the next few weeks. This is a fantastic opportunity to meet new (and not so new!) members of the church and contribute to an important part of our ministry. Please speak to Sarah Moore for more information.

SERVERS We are looking for more people to be servers.  This involves carrying the cross or one of the acolyte candles, and helping the minsters with worship during the 10.00am Sunday morning Eucharist.   If you would like to know more about being in the sanctuary during worship and what it would mean to serve the church in this way, please speak to Anne in the office.

WW1 MEMORIAL PLAQUE was installed in the chapel this week with prayers after the 8am Service. The date was chosen to coincide with the anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Versailles on 28 June 1919 which formally ended WW1, exactly five years after the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand.

WEST SIDE STORY Luke Speddings is performing in Easy Street Youth Theatre’s production of “West Side Story”.  July 15th – 19th at 7.30pm at  The Montgomery Theatre.  Booking forms are in the foyer, or contact Catherine Speddings on 07535 901109 / 268 1552.

SUNDAY LUNCH 19TH JULY hosted by the international committee to raise money for Bwindi Community Hospital in Uganda where Ceri is going to volunteer for a year from August. All welcome. See cerigallivan.wordpress.com for more info about the hospital.

CHRISTIAN AID WEEK COLLECTIONS amounted to £1587.77, which, when the Gift Aid has been reclaimed, makes the collection worth £1811.52 to Christian Aid and its partner organisations working with the most disadvantaged communities in the world. This total is over £200 more than we collected last year. A huge thank you to all our collectors and helpers-and donors! Well done everybody.

WEDDING INVITATIONS! Although now exiled in London, Matt Pitchforth and Sophie Turner will be married here on Saturday 18th July at 1.00 pm and extend a warm welcome to anyone who is able to join them. ALSO On Saturday 11th July at 2.30pm Rosamund Brown, daughter of Alan and Judith, will be marrying Jan Ragnar Storheim at St Mark’s. Both live in Oslo, but are looking forward to marrying in Rosamund’s childhood church. A warm welcome to all!

ACCOMMODATION NEEDED FOR POST GRAD STUDENT Catherine is coming to Sheffield Hallam to do a post grad medical diploma in Sept. and will be here until Feb 2016. She is looking for a homestay family to accommodate her. OBSERVATION AND IMAGINATION Kay Aitch has a solo exhibition from 2-15 July at the 35 Chapel Walk Gallery.  All are welcome to the Preview Evening on Friday 3 July, 6-8pm.  Feel free to bring guests. And if you can’t come to the preview, come along and enjoy the exhibition at some point while it is on.  Kay will be there on most days.
