LENT LUNCH The next Lenten Lunch will be after the 10am service NEXT SUNDAY.  The last lunch two weeks ago was very popular, and again we invite you to join us for a simple meal of soup and bread and a chance to be in community and enjoy each other’s company during this season of Lent. Briony

DIOCESAN SYNOD Well done to Cath Williamson for becoming one of the 11 Lay Diocesan Synod Reps from our Deanery.   We look forward to her contribution and appreciate the value that this will give in maintaining – and progressing – a liberal voice in the Diocese.  Anne Padget

FOLK FOR REFUGEE CONCERT A group of Sheffield folk performers are holding a concert on Saturday 9 April at 7.30pm at St. Mark’s Church in aid of the refugee work of the British Red Cross. CARETAKER We are delighted to congratulate Tim Moore on his appointment as caretaker. This means the church will be open in the afternoons again, and that the building and grounds will be properly cared for.

JESUS:HEALER & EXORCIST Ian Wallis will be visiting St. Mark’s again when he will be the speaker at the next CRC conference on Saturday 16 April.  He will be addressing questions about Jesus’ reputation as a healer and exorcist, and the implications of this for the sick, oppressed and marginalised.  More details and booking forms at the back of church on the CRC stall or ask John Schofield or Anne Padget   

ISLAM AWARENESS WEEK: CONNECTING COMMUNITIES.

It is our privilege to be hosting a significant event during IAW this year, on Friday 18th March, with speakers from different faith communities and food from different cultures.  Please take flyers and invite your friends and neighbours.  This is a joint event with the Islamic Society of Britain.  If you are willing to make a dessert please write on the flipchart at the back. All welcome.

ELECTORAL ROLL The electoral roll is due to be revised at the end of March.  If you are not already on it and wish to be able to vote at the APCM please complete a form at the back of church and return it to Peter Ryder by Sunday 20th March.

BROOMHILL WARD BOUNDARIES are changing in April and becoming Broomhill and Sharrow Vale (Broomhall will come under the same Ward). The Ward Councillors would like to invite groups to the Broomhall Centre THIS WEDNESDAY, 4pm – 7pm to share information about activities and promote volunteering. SOUL STORIES: THE CHURCH AND LGBT+ & LIBERATING THEOLOGIES The Multi-faith Chaplaincy has launched two new reading and discussion groups. One group is for people to hear and share stories about the experience of identifying as LGBT+ in the church. The other is a chance to explore liberating theologies. SAD NEWS In the last ten days we have heard of the deaths of Eva Wilkinson, a stalwart resident of Broomhill, active member of the Festival Committee and local historian; and also of  Mary Sharrock, formidable teacher and friend of many at St Mark’s.  Our condolences go to both families.

Eva’s funeral will be held at Hutcliffe Wood on Tuesday 15 March at 3.00pm.

Mary’s funeral will be here at St Mark’s on Friday March 18 at 12.45pm

COACH TO BIRMINGHAM – MAY 14TH We hope to run a coach to Birmingham for the Marcus Borg lecture on May 14th.  The cost of the return travel will be £17.  We must have bookings before March 21st in order to be able to confirm the booking with the coach company.   Booking forms for the Marcus Borg Day itself are on the CRC stall.  Please see Anne Padget, Helen Fisher or John Schofield for more details.

GIFT AID Thanks to all who have completed and returned their pledge forms and also their signed yellow Gift Aid forms. If you do pay income tax but have not yet signed and returned the yellow Gift Aid form to me, will you please do so asap – I need them to claim back tax after 5th April 2016.  If you no longer have the yellow form and need a replacement please let me know.
