Rev’d Sue Hammersley – Vicar

Sue is third-generation clergy, has two grown-up children and is in a Civil Partnership with Sibylle who is a chaplain working with the elderly.  Sue does not describe herself as academic and prefers reading novels to theological tomes but enjoys connecting the stories of faith with the stories people live through in their daily life.

Rev’d Shan Rush – Assistant Priest

Shan joined the ministry team at St Mark’s in 2010 to undertake her curacy following Ordination training with The Yorkshire Ministry Course.  She was Priested in 2012 and as remained with St Mark’s as she feels it both nurtures and challenges her as she seeks to be the person God has created her to be, and to live out an evolving calling alongside my family, the congregation and the wider community.  Her vocation as a self supporting Priest is rooted in my primary vocation which was as a paediatric nurse.

Rev’d Caitlin (Cate) Thomson – Curate

Caitlin (know as Cate) is our Assistant Curate, she is also third generation clergy, and is proud to be the first ordained woman in her family, following a long line of women who were passionate about their faith. Before ordination, Cate studied English and Applied Linguistics and spent a short time teaching Kindergarten in Hong Kong. She loves to read, sing and draw, and delights in discovering new things and sharing the joy of learning. She has a chronic condition called Hypermobility Spectrum Disorder and as such is passionate about encouraging healthy and sustainable patterns of work and worship for the whole community.

Pat Hunt – Churchwarden

Pat is our Senior Churchwarden. She has worshipped at St Marks for almost 40 years, and was married to Mike at St Marks in 1983 in a beautiful service conducted by Revd Dr Michael Bayley.
Pat is a Psychotherapist, Consultant and Advisor. She is just about to become President of the European Association for Psychotherapy, and is Bishop’s Advisor for Pastoral Care – in all this she is resourced and enabled through her faith and being part of St Marks.

James Oliver – Churchwarden

James has fond memories of St Mark’s attending as a school boy and whilst bringing up his two older sons, Sam and Ben. He and his family feel very welcomed by an interesting congregation at St. Mark’s and enjoy an active part in Church life including the Welcome team, the Soup Run, singing in the choir, part of the tech team, drama production and readings helping us to feel a part of this community. He enjoys the interesting Architecture of St Mark’s and in part this encourages his faith and it is a great place to praise God.

David Willington – Music Director

David is our Director of Music. He’s been an enthusiastic musician from the age of 6 and when not playing the organ and directing the choir he plays viola, sings and messes around on any other instruments he can get his hands on. He is particularly fond of playing chamber music.

Hannah Jones – Children’s and Families Worker

Hannah joined St Mark’s as the Children and Families’ Worker in 2019. Prior to this she worked in arts and education for many years, exploring a wide range of visual arts in galleries and in the environment, as well as performing arts; especially music. Having arrived in Sheffield in 2014, St Mark’s quickly became an important safe-space for her and her family, and also led to her volunteer work around youth provision in Broomhall.

Sarah Rousseau – Office Manager

Sarah manages our church office, all the admin, and ensures the website is up to date.  Although she has no faith, she is very involved in the community of St Mark’s and enjoys working for such a welcoming vibrant organisation.  She works part time (weekday mornings), and out of work enjoys travelling, outdoor swimming and volunteering.  She also co-organises Sheffield PlantSwap, and co-edits a creative swimming magazine; Swimzine.

Tim Moore – Caretaker

Tim does general maintenance and greeting every weekday afternoon. He has worked as a glass merchant and been a self-employed handyman. He has an MA in English literature and writes novels under a different name. He lives in Walkley with his wife Sarah and their dog, Freya, and a cat called Fruitbat.

John Whitmill – Cleaner

John is our cleaner. When not working at St. Mark’s, he works at the university library, is a keen walker and likes being by the sea.
