Night Service: Sundays at 7pm
Night service candles

Night Service happens every Sunday evening and is approximately 45 minutes in duration. It is a simple act of worship using silence, music, readings, and prayer to create space to ‘be’ – in the presence of God and in the company of others. Drawing inspiration from the person of Jesus, Night Service assumes no creed or religious affiliation beyond an open mind and an inquiring faith.

It is a contemplative and reflective space sometimes with music, and often with intentional use of silence and stillness. It is non-dogmatic whilst encouraging exploration and creativity. It is a sanctuary space – inclusive, relaxed, embracing, affirming. It is experiential and multi-sensory, prayerful, and biblically inspired, making connections between spirituality, lifestyle and discipleship.

There are a variety of different regular expressions of worship that we use at Night Service that rotate around the weeks of the month.

First Sunday of the month: Night Service Communion
This service is a simple, yet profound, service of thanksgiving and hospitality originating in the ministry of Jesus. In addition to sharing in bread and wine, there are prayers, a bible reading and reflection, songs and music.

Second Sunday of the month: Night Service Conversations at 6pm followed by Night Prayer at 7pm
Questioning faith, deconstructing faith, evolving faith. Sometimes it’s good to talk through the baggage our Christian faith may have given us and find ways to hold our beliefs with care and love. Once a month on the 2nd Sunday, we will meet for food and discussion from 6pm and then have a short service of Night Prayer at 7pm.

Third Sunday of the month: Taizé
On the third Sunday we meet for Taizé Prayer. This is a service of singing, prayer, and silence

Follows the pattern and style of worship practised at the Taizé Community. Taizé is an ecumenical monastic order of over one hundred brothers based in a village in southeast France. Over 100,000 young people make a pilgrimage to Taizé each year to share in worship, bible study and community life. Three times each day everything stops on the hill of Taizé as the bells call everyone to the church for prayer.

Hundreds, sometimes thousands of young adults from many different countries across the world pray and sing with the brothers of the community. Short songs sung over and over again that, in a few words, express a basic reality, quickly grasped by the mind. Then the Bible is read in several languages. At the centre of every prayer service, a long moment of silence offers an irreplaceable opportunity to encounter God.

Fourth Sunday of the month: Themed Service
Themed services explore a particular issue, experience or occasion in a more creative way, offering a fresh perspective. Past themed services include: asylum, doubt, friendship, homelessness, poetry and prayer, living with, loss, racial justice, thresholds, water of life and wholeness.

When there is a Fifth Sunday of the month:  A Service of Healing and Wholeness
Lasting about 45 minutes, this is an informal service of readings, music and time for reflection. There is the opportunity to receive anointing and prayer, and stillness and space to reflect We hope to offer a sacred space where we can be restored and strengthened in mind, body, and spirit whilst accepting who we are, our weakness and strength. Everyone is welcome. We all need regular refreshing, restoration, and prayer.
